I just got ask to take over a contract for the united stat’s post office. They want the exterior and interior to be cleaned once a month. How much would you charge?

If you are taking over the contract, would there not be pricing set up already? If not, what you charge should depend on what your expenses are.

Since when does the Post Office allocate any funds to detail their vehicles? I have never heard of any Government vehicles being detailed (besides maybe the presidential motorcade).

I know every state/agency owned vehicle in CT gets detailed regularly, but according to the contracts the average price is $95-125 which includes 'compounding exterior' and full interior service. I'd like to pick up some DEP Prius', but not for that price and what's involved.

Complete Package of Simonize Service & Interior - Exterior $118.00

Includes compounding and waxing, upholstery cleaning, rug shampoo

vinyl tops cleaned and dressed, windows washed inside & out.

Your state should have a procurement / contract dept to handle these kinds of things, here's the CT contract it's only 800kb.

The dealers in my state pay about 40 to 65 per car. This is not my line of work. I could never work for that. My exterior detail starts at 165.00 and depending on the rejuvenation involved it could go up over 100 dollars from there. I am in business to make money....not give things away. I guess it would depend how hungry an individual is. Most of my customers have had bad experiences with past detailers who tried to power polish their cars. I do see a lot of meat cutters in this business. During Spring I hit the dealers correcting BLACK cars only. Some of the work I see makes me humbly appreciative I can always find work. You will all reach a point where you will be able to let the phone ring and customers will come to you. At least that should be the goal. I have been lucky enough that I have never advertised my business anywhere in print. 38 long years! My car, as I drive, is a billboard for any detailer. Word of mouth seems to keep me pretty busy unless there is a foot of snow on the ground....Then I stay home and chase my wife around the house.

That's interesting. I'm surprised a state would spend the money. We are talking about Federal Government owned vehicles in this case, so that's why I'm really questioning the idea.

I think $5 a vehicle is a bit too low. My wife is a carrier for the USPS. Their office also has someone contracted to wash the postal vehicles. The price was $4 to $6. But this person has the whole city of columbus. There are 45 vehicles at the station she works at.All they do is wash off the outside, lightly vac, and go. No windows, dressings,or air freshner. I guess it's not to bad it you have the contract for 4 to 5 hundred vehicles, two to three times a year. But you have to be sure to get it the next time the bid is up,or you are out of work! NOTE!

These are not details.
