FK1 paint decontamination kit

Does anyone have any experience with the FK1 paint decontamination kit?

I've been reading their website and it sounds very interesting but I have some questions.

I want to try it on my car to see if I want to add it to my concourse package for my serious customers

If you were to still clay the car would you do it in between step 1 (FK1119 Soil & Coating Remover / Wax & Detail Pre-Cleaner ) and step 2 (FK883 SIRR Steel & Iron Rust Remover)? It seems like the logical step to do it. Mechanically remove the tops of embbeded material with the clay and then deep clean the sub-surface with the FK883.

I would just be concerned that I would be removing something that the FK1119 was supposed to be left behind to make the FK883 work.

The directions say to wash with the step 1 FK1119 using a mitt or sponge and to keep the surface wet and not let it dry for 5-10 minutes. The entire car for 5-10 minutes! How much of this stuff does one end up using on a car? Is this stuff thick and clings or is it runny like water? How do you keep the sides wet for 5-10 minutes if it is like water? I thought that using a high volume spray bottle and keep spritzing the panels and work it in, but to do this on the entire car at the same time for 5-10 minutes seems like I would go through a couple of gallons.

I have the same problem withe the step 2 FK883. You have to keep the entire car wet with FK883 for 5-7 minutes. Does this stuff clling or will it run off the sides like water?

At least the FK1119 is diluted 1:4 with water so a gallon it would go farther, but the FK883 is not and it seems like would use at least a gallon on a car.

Do you think the FK118 SC-Ph Neutralizer wash is necessary? Is it necessary to neutralize the acids in the FK883 or acid rain in general?

Is it all worth it?

I like the kit...

I clay after or during step 2... during wrecks clay pretty bad but it gets the surface nice and baby smooth. It's not too hard to keep it wet, I just work in the shade and keep going around the car with the mitt.

As far as volume of SIRR goes, I've done like 5 cars with my kit and it's still almost full. I probably use 3-5oz per car.

Fk118 isn't necessary... any car wash shampoo will work. It is however, an excellent shampoo. I would suggest picking some up and trying it out, I like it better than anything else I've used.

Thanks for the quick response.

Only 3-5 oz of the SIRR? How did you apply so little? Is that amount diluted to make a gallon?

How did you apply that stuff? Spray it on then continually wipe it on. Does it stay on the surface or run right off?

If anything the FK1119 sounds like much better way to pre-wash than using Dawn. Sounds like it really strips the surface down to just the paint. Do you see any issue with just doing the step 1 on cars and then clay and polish as normal?

I have used the 1119 as a wax and soil remover. It was very easy to use. Applied as directed to remove old wax build up. Very effective and did not harm trim. Better than dawn. Rinse with fresh water afterwards real good. Leaves car clean and ready for polish, wax or prewax products. You will like it.

Yeah, the FK1118 sounds like an obvious winner. I'm just cautious about the the SIRR FK883. If anyone know of any video's demonstrating someone using it I would feel better. An acid wash just doesn't sound like a good product to learn from trial and error.

How exatly does an acid wash remove stuff imbedded in the paint? Does it actually dissolve the stuff or dissolve the paint?

The acid dissolves the ferrous contamination which sit in the paint it will leave a tiny hole though (where the particle actually was), but you won't see any returning blooming again, because there is no more iron that can rust.

I use the decontamination system from AutoInt, the one that FK slams because of its "overly aggressive acidic step". NO problems, you'll do fine; the whole thing is easier than it might first appear. I clay same as themightytimmah, while the acidic step is dwelling and yeah, it sure does dissolve the clay so have plenty on hand.

I decided to just try the FK1118 for now. I'll have to dwell on the FK883 SSRI for bit first and look into the AutoInt system also. Also ordered some FK425. I keep seeing such positive references to it that I couldn't contain my curiousity any more.
