FK1 Decontamination kit

has anyone tried FK1 decontamination kit? I was planning a swirl removal/clay session in a week or two and I'm thinking of adding the decon. kit with my next order of 1000P and more 146.

The marketing info says that with the kit you won't need to clay, which sound like nonsense to me. But the information about how claying only removes the top half of man made polutant and misses all that particles that fill swirl channels has me intrigued.

If you have tried it do you think its necessary to buy the whole kit? Or is the decontamination mostly done by one of its componenets? Thanks

I used it when I detailed my dad's SLK. I only had purchased step 1 as none of our cars have heavy contamination so I didn't think I needed the second more aggressive step. I let the solution dwell on the paint (it smells ghastly, BTW) for the required amount of time then rinsed and washed with their neutralizing wash. I still needed to clay afterwards as I did not get the smoothness in the paint that I was expecting. If I were to try it again, I would definitely use all the components. This may or may not have been why it did not work for me. I would love to hear from people who have used the whole system.

A number of people haver tried it and posted about their results, could be worth a search.

FWIW, I've had good results with the other brand, AutoInt's ABC system. No more of the recurring rust blooms that plagued my silver cars before I started decontaminating them upon delivery (when I relied on clay and paint cleaners some of the spots would always come back).

Yeah, they *do* do more than clay alone, but neither will work miracles, especially on vehicles that've had the contamination on them for a long time.

If you do buy one of the kits, the step you can consider skipping is the final one, the ph-neutral wash. Any wash that's neutral or slightly alkaline will (please notet that this is just *IMO*) work fine for the final step.

I sure wouldn't skip the acidic step, IMO that's the one that really does something special.

Oh, and I still clay; I do it while the acidic step is dwelling (yeah, it does dissolve the clay pretty badly but it helps remove the ferrous contamination better than relying on just the acid).

I've used it, and I found it worked very well for me. For the price (it was quite a bit less expensive than the ABC kit if I remember), you really can't go wrong.

And for me, it did seem to leave the paint pretty contaminant free. I still went and clayed after anyways :D, but there were hardly any particles on the clay.

Still, I've used it twice (once when I first got the car, and then again a couple of months later when I wanted to strip all the old waxes, sealants, etc. down to start fresh with a clean base), and both time I've clayed afterwards. No matter how good it is, I still feel more comfortable taking that little bit of extra time just to be on the safe side.
