I've used MOTHERS FX Wheel/Rim cleaner and it works as described. I'd like to switch to something more cost effective, as $7 per 24oz is going to be a lot in the long haul (I typically use a lot of this stuff). So I'm considering the 221-D from FK. I know most their products are good, but wanted to know if 221-D will "melt" common break dust, and help dissolve tough break dust from wheels.



Also, though the exerpt says you can use it on practically any wheel, can 221-D be used on chrome, CC, aluminum, etc. wheels like the MOTHERS FX can?

Hey guys, I was considering purchasing this stuff as its a REAL pain to clean rims with out some type of degreaser. I was curious how strong this stuff was, when properly diluted, and your experiences with it.



Maybe theres a better tire degreaser?

I'm with you man. I just got mine yesterday so I haven't used it. Plus my wheels aren't really dirty anyway so it would be hard to judge its performance. The thing is I don't think many people here have used it, or at least posted about it. There is one review here somewhere, do a search for it. I don't remember who did it but the user seemed to be pleased with it.

I didn't find it in a serach? I'll do it again. In any case I'm pretty positive FK makes good products and I'd be safe purchasing it. But there not hurry so why not get some input?
 
I have and use the 221-D wheel cleaner from FK1. It's very good at removing break dust and shines up aluminum wheels very nice. Very safe with no acid that has a pleasent citrus scent. Dilute 4:1 for heavy duty jobs and 10:1 for light cleaning. Great cleaner imo

By removing do you mean the break dust drips off? I'm looking for something that melts or disolves the break dust. Any car wash soap can be applied to simply remove.
 
No, definatly need light aggitation to remove the break dust. Not the strongest stuff but very safe and easy. I find that the Turle wax platinum wheel cleaner will melt break dust off like you described.

TW? I'd go for it but I doubt they sell it in bulk. I'm basically looking for something like Eagle 1 or Mothers FX Wheel Cleaner in bulk, which surprisingly is more difficult then I had expected.

Agreed. Not the safest to use all the time, but with Wheel Brightener, I was even able to melt some oxidation and discoloration on an Impala wheel that would have otherwise taken polish to remove.

Neither of those come in bulk (dilluatable) packages though do they?
 
I've been using the FK1 Wheel Cleaner for about a year now. It's very good and quite cost-effective compared to P21S, for example. The stuff is not to be placed in the "powerful" category and that's why I prefer it. It does a great job cleaning maintained wheels and leaves a nice bright finish. I dilute 1:5.



I used it for the first time to clean underhood about a week ago. It did a great job. No apparent damage to aluminum. It left the painted surfaces glossy and spotlessly clean.
