First Wax Job on Black 350Z Roadster - Zaino

Hi Gang,

I'm planning on waxing my Black 350Z Roadster this weekend and I've already picked up a Zaino starter kit in Guelph (I'm in Canada). The car has about 800 miles on it so the paint is still in very good shape. It has only been waxed with whatever mystery wax was used at the dealership.

From reading many articles on this site, it seems everyone suggests polishing after claybaring.

Q1 - Do I need to polish with "something" after claybar and before Zaino.

Q2 - If I should polish, what should I use since Zaino doesn't really have a Polish product.

Q3 - Should I pick up a Porter Cable 7424 polisher? I've never used one and I'm sure it would speed things up (especially when I wax the other car which is an Intrepid (HUGE)).

Q4 - Is this the right order? Wash, Claybar, Polish(maybe), Z5, Z2, Z5, Z2, Z2, Z2, Z2, Z2, etc.

Q5 - What is typical cure time between Z5 and Z2?

Thanks!

Paul.

With a car that new, there shouldn't be much need for polishing right now. Just wash, clay, wash, apply your Zaino.

Since your car is black, it is inevitable that you will need a Porter Cable one day. Just start saving and researching, and when the time comes, you'll be ready to buy.

I personally don't like Z2 on black cars, but that is something you will have to play with and see what you like best. I don't recommend putting more than 6 coats on. Anything after that is just wasting product.

If you have ZFX curing time for Z5/Z2 should be 15-30 minutes, depending on the weather.

You're probably just doing shorthand here ... but ... you really do need to use the Zaino QD between layers of Z5 or Z2. It really does make a difference, seems to me.

Also, I don't think you're supposed to apply more than 3 coats in 1 day.

Personally, I think 2 is sufficient but that's just me.

On a newer car., just wash, clay, Zaino. I mix up one ounce with the ZFX and manage two coats on the whole car and maybe a third on the top surfaces before I run out.
