First Waterless wash-what did I do wrong?

OK, so I just tried S&W for the first time and it left my hood (the only part I tried it on) all streaks. S&G got rid of the streaks but what am I doing wrong? I've never used a waterless wash before and am not very comfortable doing it but I sprayed a light mist over half the hood and wiped off with a microfiber. It didn't dry with just one wipe so I had to go over it several times and when it was dry it was all streaks. It's a very hot and humid day here and I was in full sun and paint was pretty warm. Should I use more product? Less product? Dry with absorber or WW instead of mf? :dunno Right now I'm not sure I'll ever get comfortable washing without water. Any help would be appreciated.

I just orderd some S&W and S&G and I absolutely love both of them. Will deffinately order a 5 gallon drum. Mainly, the S&W isn't made for very dirty cars. Was the car very dirty or light dirt? That might be one of the problems you had with streaking because I have had mild streaking but came out with a second swipe with the WW drying towel. Haven't used a m/f polishing towel with S&W. I keep those towels for S&G+polishes+sealants+waxes etc. etc. HTH's

My first guess would be too much product.
My guess isn't the best since I have never used S&W in direct sunlight.
My usual suggestion, try a small area with varying amounts of S&W till you hit a combination you are comfortable with.

Thanks for the replies and I'll give them a try. bsdsys_x86 are you saying that you wipe the S&W and dirt off with a WW instead of MF? I really hate to mess up my WW's but I have a ton of MF's, that's why I used them even though they don't seem to dry very well.

just remember all mf are not created equal..to get the most out of your Spray & Wipe, you should use think absorbant mf towels..if they are cheap and not absorbant , you will get streaking;)

Even with Megaplush towels, ww towels, ultrafine pakshak towels, S&W leaves streaks/smeary looking spots on my black car. I am not using too much product anymore either ;) I dunno I have all but gave up on Waterless washes. Every other colored vehicle it works great on but *MY* skill using it on black produces the same results everytime and not just on my vehicle :dunno

hmmm, heres a little tip i have to give you. when i tend to QD with S&W, or any other QD for that matter, what i do is i spray it and wipe it just like you did. however, after a couple of passes, what i do is...

i flip the mf over to a dry side and use the dry side to get any extra QD that was left over. because the mf is already damp, it wont do a good job absorbing what little is left of the the S&W. if you flip over to the dry side (assuming you fold your MFs in quarters when you QD), it absorbs that little bit thats left over becuase the mf was too damp to absorb it. this should solve most of you're streaking problems :bigups.

edit: forgot to mention that using waffle weaves for QD does work pretty well too. i got that tip from GSR too. but i understand that you have a lot more mfs than waffle weaves, so dont fret about it.

I have a black car as well, and also get alot of streaks using S&W during the day. I usually use 2 Waffle-Weaves to perform the task.

After I clean up the dirt, using liberal amounts of s&w, all that is left is streaks. At this point, I lightly mist a tiny bit of S&W, and use the clean WW to "buff" the streaks out.

Usually the second one stays pretty clean, but if the first one gets too dirty, I rotate the 2nd one to the 1st one's duty, and get a new WW to perform the 2nd WW's task.

I've used the S&W and have a black car also. I love S& W and use it this way... 1) spray as much as you feel comfortable on the panel to lubricate the dirt when wiping. 2) Use a good microfiber cloth (i noticed that u do, and that this has been suggested) and wipe as you would any qd. 3) ...let streaks dry, and if confident that "gritty" dirt is gone, buff the straks w/ a clean / dry seperate mf.

NOTE: i always knock the biggest "gritty" dirt off @ a "do it yourself wash" first.

To date... no swirls caused by S&W. Once u get the hang of it, I think you'll like it.

I just started using S&W and S&G. I love this stuff and I have a black car to top it off. I found when I did my car at night with the S&W it worked really well at cleaning up the car. I found when I did it in the day time it worked well, but as soon as you spray it on a panel you need to follow right behind with your MF before it starts to dry. Believe me it dries quick because your car gets so hot. this stuff really saves me a trip because I can't wash my car in the development I live in.
