First time with Poorboys EX Sealant . . .

I finished my spring time complete paint detail:

1. Polish with PC using a wool cutting pad and CMA's new advanced yellow cutting pad with Menzerna's Intensive polish. It was my first time with a wool cutting pad. Very easy to use. I was trying to remove a few pretty good scratches. On most of the car, I used the yellow advance cutting pad. Very nice. Menzerna intensive polish flashes very quikly. I would spray the pad and part of the panel I was polishing with Quick Shine QD. This helped keep the polish from drying to quickly. I really like the Menzerna Intensive.

2. Polish with ClearKote's Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze using the PC and a CMA white advanced pad. VM is very easy to use and produces a nice Carnauba look.

3. Apply Poorboys EX Sealant by hand with a microfiber applicator. EX is very, very thick. It is a little bit difficult to apply thinly. (Next time I probably will apply this with the PC using a CMA finishing pad.) After I applied the EX I waited 40 min. to remove. Removing the EX is easy. About like removing Souveran wax.

The resut: I think EX is a great sealant that gives a Carnauba like appearance. It is not a glitzy sealant look but a deeper, wetter, liquid look. It looks great on black.

I will be topping with Souveran but I wanted to post a couple of pics with just the EX. It was pretty cloudy out when I took these two pics.

iceman,

So far I have only tested EX on black paint.

To me EX is more like a Carnauba in its appearance. UPP is more like 1/2 Klasse and 1/2 Carnauba if I try to describe it.

It seems that EX has a bit more depth, like a good carnauba and UPP is more refractive/reflective with depth.

I hope this helps.

Amp99,

Great review. EX is a very good sealant with a carnuaba-like final appearance with a slight hint of sealant glitz. I found from my experience with EX that even though a thin application is cost-effective the effortless removal (buffing) of EX does not change when applied thick. You might try using a sponge ( from de-coated terry applicator). It works very well in achieving a thin coat.

AMP99, I have an experiement for you since you stated that you are going to top with Souveran. Try this - mix 1/2 teaspoon of Souveran and 1/2 teaspoon of P21S/S100 and apply. Wipe off wet with MF. I think you will be amazed at the appearance. :wavey

Thanks Guys!

blkZ28Conv,

That sounds like a cool experiment! :xyxthumbs

How do you suggest that I mix the Souveran & P21S paste wax together?

Leave it up to a Mad Scientist :p like you to come up with that mixture!

Amp99,

I just combined the 2 equal amounts of Souveran and P21S/S100 in an old empty container of P21S ( any clean air-tight container should work that can be used to save left-overs) . I combined them by mashing with a spoon until completely intergrated. Very easy since both are soft and similiar consistency to start with.

Please try. I would like to know your opinion on the results. I was nervous about revealing this experiment but since you have both products and just applied EX your results should be equivalent and should verify or nullify my apparent results.:wavey

I see a potential variation to this experiment. Varying ratios of the 2 products :o

blkZ28, I know you've been playing around with EX and toppers . . . have you had any trouble applying new layers of EX directly on top of say, S100? Or should it only be used as a basecoat? I realize the durability of a layer of EX on top of S100 would only be about as good as the S100 itself (weakest link in the chain, etc.), but I'm more interested in applying new layers of EX for shine enhancement than for durability in this case.

I came up with an application technique for EX.

I used a microfiber applicator that was dampened with spritz of water. I tried using even less EX per panel, (aprox. 1/3 of a dime size portion for a 3' x 3' section. I kept spritzing the applicator with water throughout the application process. I applied the EX to the entire car and then reomoved.

The dampness of the pad helped make the application much easier. This also made removing EX even easier than ever, about like removing P21S/S100 wax.

I hope this helps others who are contemplating using Poorboy's EX Sealant.

LOL!!!! Can I save and use that avatar Tort?

I found no problem with topping a carnauba or sealant ( P21S, Souveran, Moose Wax or even BFII) with EX for appearance sakes when I was testing EX. No smearing, streaking, gumming or hazying.

After running several different situational tests I presently use Poorboy's EX as my base protectant and appearance enhancing coat( applied after paint cleansing and spot SMR'ing). I top because I love to play with my garage queen and add that extra "POP" that one gets from Souveran and P21S.

The finally results of Poorboy's alone is very impressive and EX is all I use on my wife's LS400 daily driver. :xyxthumbs

Tort I see no procedural problem of using EX as a topper for appearance enhancement. Effects on durability :nixweiss.

blkZ28Conv,

Sure thing, the .gif is yours. It was never mine, actually, as I used Google Images to search for "mad scientist" and pilfered it myself :D

Good to hear that EX doesn't seem to have compatibility problems with anything; I will commence experimentation without worries . . .

Thanks,

Tort
