First time using Megs MF pad and backing plate

After about 15 minutes of use, the backing plate heated up so much that the middle of it melted, literally, which melted the back of the pad, and they fused together, causing the pad to com apart from the velcro backing. I just read somewhere here that the Megs backing plate is supposed to run cooler than the LC one, but this is NOT the case. I switched to my LC backing plate and a new pad and it never even got warm.

Ironically I ordered two more packs of pads yesterday, so I contacted them for my options. I definitely want the destroyed ones to be returned/replaced though.

Griot's 6", setting was a tad over 4

Keep the speed between 3-4 and lighten up on the pressure. Like anything else that's mass produced, it's possible that you received a defective pad. But if you experience multiple pad failures, it's generally caused by user error.

Thanks, I will be trying them again. I did notice, when I switched over to the LC backing plate, I had no issues, almost no heat whatsoever. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident.

I'm with the STIG. In general the Meg's pads work great with their backing plate (and others). Sometimes things just go haywire. If you ordered from Autopia-CarCare.com we would have no problem swapping your products out. :bigups

Thanks Todd. I didn't purchase it from you guys (this time) but I'll keep your shop on my list. I contacted the store I ordered from this morning.

I've had that happen when using too small of a BP and too much speed/pressure. Although that's definitely not something that should happen with the suggested BP! I now use a Mirka 6" BP with my DA and absolutely love the combo at any speed.

Very cool, I'm sure it will work out. Stuff like this is frustrating, but I hope this is just an isolated incident!

Thanks Todd. Meg's acted quickly and are sending replacements now. Can't say enough about their customer service. I'll give it another go, it's just too good to not try again.

mine busted. i ordered from autogeek. my 3" pad failed.

my 5" backplate never fails. I put some spray wax on the Velcro and it comes off much easier.....
