First Time Using Griot's DA on 05 Jaguar XJ8 VDP

So it's about a year since I first purchased my Griot's DA, and I have yet to use it for polishing. Ive mainly just washed, clay-barred, and waxed my car since I purchased it, so it does have some mild swirl marks (which aren't very visible due to the metallic silver paint).



I have been thinking of ordering some polishes and pads from Proper Auto Care. Here's what I came up with:



M105 32oz x1

M205 32oz x1

(Jeweling Polish?)

Meguiar’s Soft Buff 2.0 Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad x2

Meguiar's Soft Buff 2.0 Yellow Foam Polishing Pad x2



Would these polishes and pads be enough to remove light to moderate swirl marks? If not, i'm open to suggestions. Also, I believe the Meguiar's pads are 7" whereas the Griots backing plate is 6". Would I need to buy a new Meguiar's backing plate for these pads to be compatible with my DA? Or would the stock Griots 6" backing plate suffice

I agree with the 5.5" pads. Get some Menz 85rd with a grey/blue pad for finishing.

LincolnSquare- Yeah, get the smaller 5.5" pads (I'd probably even go with 4" but that's just me). And I'd get a *LOT* more pads than that.



Oh, and if you might also look into the new Optimum spray compound and spray polish. Yeah, I'm always recommending M105/M205, but they *can* be a little finicky and they have *short* worktimes (which I happen to like). I have it on good authority that the Optimum spray products are user-friendly and effective, and if you'd prefer some longer worktimes they might be a better choice.



If you get M105, I'd also get some M34 to use when wiping off the M105 residue.



If you get M205, I'd also get some PrepWash from Top of the Line Auto Detailing Supplies to clean off the oils (much better than IPA, at least IME).



I dunno if you'll really need a finer final polish...and I'm the guy who says he's improved upon M205's finish ;) Don't overcomplicate this stuff. Give some thought to what your LSP will be; I'd quite probably do the penultimate work with some kind of AIO rather than some conventional jeweling-product choice.
