First time poster / any recommendations ?

Greetings,

I have been checking out this website for quite a while now, but this is my first time posting. I have just bought another car to enjoy on the weekends and was wondering what you much more experienced detailers would recommend to really make it stand out.

The paint is good over the entire car and still pretty shiny and swirl free. It's an '89 and the only problems cosmetically are that there are clearcoat problems on the nose of the car and only on the right side. I have ordered a bra to cover this up until I get it repainted.

What do you recommend ? Thanks

Rob

Wow. I love silver. If you really want it to stand out then I suggest that you get some Klasse and use that. Then top it with some Pinnacle wax. They make two kinds. One for dark cars and one for light cars. They both work really well but I would almost recommend the dark car version (Souveran) over the light car version (Paste Glaz). The Paste Glaz makes the car glow but the Souveran makes it glow and ads a really awesome reflection. You know how hard reflection is to get on silver so you will really appreciate what it can do for you.

Remember that when you get the bra that you have to take it off frequently. They serve a purpose but they are incredibly high maintance. Never wash your car with the bra on and always make sure you clean out from under it so things don't get under it and rub or stain your paint. I think that bras really make a car stand out but they are pretty tough to keep up on.

I think you live in my in-law's neck of the woods. Know where Lodi is? That's where they live. I'm out there all the time. My brother-in-law has a silver car like yours and that Klasse/Pinnacle combination looked really good on his.

You have some great cars! Welcome to the forums! :xyxthumbs

First off, sweet ride! I've always liked the 928 and wish I could afford to maintain one. I mean, I can afford to buy one but to keep it running is expensive, but you know that better that I.

So, what to use to take it to the next level........it would help if you gave us more info like the current products you use, the frequency of work, the desired results, and any other pertinent info. It's easy for us to throw out products and brands but that doesn't help too much if we don't know what you want to accomplish and how far along you are now.

But to get you started, its my undestanding that on silver cars polymer sealants look the best. Specifically Zaino and Klasse. Silver is one of those colors that tends to refract light in a million directions so it can be hard to get a great gloss unless you use products that have a track record for adding life to silver. If your car was black or other dark color I'd recommend a carnauba-based regimen. But silver needs help with reflectivity more than most other colors.

Spend some time searching thru posts and archives to learn techniques and tricks. The amount of info here is amazing; consider this place the detailing version of the Library of Congress and you'll get the idea.

Welcome to the club.:)

I just bought the 928 from a guy living in Lodi. A very nice couple (met her only briefly) and the sale went fantastic ! I can't believe this.

Seriously,

I am not joking. Without giving too much info out on the net. The previous owner's first name started with a T. He does photography with his wife and was into radio some years back. Is that the same person ?

Nope. Different guy. Hard to believe that there could be that many of that car in such a small area though. The world gets a whole lot smaller when you get online, eh? :) He actually moved out of Lodi not too long ago and now lives back east.

I with Jngrbrdman and bretfraz on the polymer sealant. It really brings out the shine in silver.

I like Klasse on silver. I used to use Meguiars#7/3M IHG and Blitz on a Titanium Silver BMW (2000.) Last May, I gave it the Klasse/Blitz treatment (Klasse AIO, Klasse SG, and Blitz wax topper) and the silver was much brighter. I will contact the owner of this car soon as it has almost been a year since I last detailed it. I will most likely go with Zaino this time around on the car since it is a garage queen and the system is simple to use. Wash with Z-7, QD with Z-6 and thats it for a year (garage queen, reapply Zaino every 6 months on a daily driver.) Each year just give it three coats of Z-2/Z-5 with ZFX, maybe clay certain spots.

Here is a MB C43 AMG (2000) It was treated with Pinnacle Paintwork Cleaning Lotion, 4 coats of Klasse SG, and a topper of Pinnacle souveran. This is about 7 weeks after the detail with a wash and quick detail with Eimann Fabrik Clear Pearl.

Happy Detailing,

Welcome to the forum. Follow what these guys are saying and read as many threads on your choice of product ie Klasse, Zanio etc and you wont go wrong.

The best advice I can think of is not to become to worried about which product to use as the real differnce is technique.

First, welcome to the forum. I have been a huge 928 fan since the age of 19 (circa 928S4) and I got to drive 2 of them at ages 21 and 22. I concur with the rest of the guys here with the addition that paint preparation is the key. You might want to consider a nice clay to get rid of any contaminants. Once you clay it, then hit it with AIO and then 3-4 coats of SG. Finally, top it with Souveran.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I have ordered several different items to try out. I will post some images when these things come in and after I have used them. The information on this site is tremendous. Again, thanks.
