First time polishing

Are you polishing by hand, DA, or rotary? Generally speaking, you wonâ€â„¢t use tape unless youâ€â„¢re worried about accumulating polish in the crevices or trim. If you youâ€â„¢re using a rotary, itâ€â„¢s a good measure to prevent burn. Otherwise, if youâ€â„¢re careful and take your time, you should be fine without tape. Good luck.

I'm using 3m PI II RC with my PC 7424. I know that I am supposed to use the RC first, but then do I need to use the 3m Finesse-it II Machine polish to shine it up?

And what do you mean by "if you're using a rotary, it's a good measure to prevent burn?" What's burn and how does tape affect it?

Thanks!

A rotary burn is when too much heat is built up in a particular spot and it literally causes a burn in the paint or trim (think of an iron accidentally touching your skin). The burn will be very dull compared to the surrounding areas. By taping the trim, you would burn the paint instead of the trim, though you still run the risk of burning the paint.

I don't think you need to tape with that combo, I know I wouldn't. Just don't use too much product so you don't get it everywhere. And wipe it off any trim you get it on before it dries.

Yeah, you'll need to follow the PI-II RC with something milder like the FI-II.

Don't breath the PI-II RC dust. Wear a mask if you're gonna do much work with it.

Should I just get the PI-III RC and avoid much of the dust? I hear it gives a nicer finish, too.

And it's Yellow pad to compound, and Black to finish, right?
