First time polishing have a ?

This is the first time I've polished and I'm doing my mustang. I started with light and kept working up and this was after a light cutting pad and SSR2.5. I took a picture and magnified, you can see there are minature pits, what are these caused by and will a buffer be able to remove them? My friend thinks its so bad it will need wet sanding, but I'm hopping a light cutting pad with SSR3 or a wool pad with SSR3 can take care of it. What do you guys think?



 
looks like some silicone was in the paint or something. A term called Fish eye. You might be able to get some out with compound and wool pad, but might have to wet sand for full correction.
 
I forgot to mention, this is a 1999 Black Mustang that has never really been detailed, the previous owner just washed it every once in a while. If I sand it, what grit should I use? start with 1500? then 2000 then wool pad?
 
could be rail shavings or industrial fall out. Do you live near an airport or factory? I think it makes miniture acid rain spots on the car.

Is it on the whole car? Do you know the actual history of the car? Has it been repainted? Looks like the rare solvent pop. Waxing or sealing an uncured paint job. Maybe fisheye.



Wetsanding might help, but i would only do a small section first. Go from there.
 
Today I got my wool pad so I tried that with SSR3, it was very very slow, so I took out the sand paper (2000) and did some quick sanding. It appears like its gone, how thick is my clear coat? I've sanded before but on my own jobs where i put usually 4-8 coats of clear on.



The guy I got it from never really did anything to it. Was just a car he drove to work every day and never really got washed. I think its acid rain because he used to live in the city.





When I get back from school today, I'll hit it with the wool pad real quick to shine it up a little more to see if I can see the pits anymore, I don't see any as it is, but the sanding knocks the shine off, so it may just be camouflaged.
