First Time PC & DACP user

Well i just got my PC too and trying it with DACP...So i have read that you run it at 3.5 with the PC until it gets flakey? What about running the PC at 6? I also have a problem with the product flying to other panels...so annoying any tips.

Are you spreading the DACP out over the panel your working on with the PC turned OFF prior to using the PC?

All I do is put the DACP on the pad, put the pad on the panel, put the PC on 3.5 and spread it around good. When its spread around real well, I crank the PC all the way to 6, and work it until its almost gone and starts to blow dust around.

You should put the DACP on the pad and spread it manually (PC is OFF) across the area to work on to minimize the splatter.

I've only had issues with splatter when I used way too much DACP. You don't need much at all. I find three dime sized dollups in a triangle on the pad is perfect.

I top out at 4.5-5, and so do several other people. I don't know why they stop at that speed, but I do because otherwise I get small bits of foam flying off my precious pad if I work it too long. Just 1 step lower and no problem, so that's what I do....

Do you guys find a big difference between 5 and 6 with your PC ?

Mine seems to really jump in RPM's at 6......

Yeah Patrick. That's normal. From 1 - 6 isn't linear in speed. There's a pretty big difference between 5 1/2 and 6.

I personally like running the PC7424 without the handle and holding it simply by the head. Much less vibration as I am some other find most of the vibration comes from the handle.

Well Im glad Im not alone then, I thought mine was defective.....Its really a substantial increase......

The problem I had today was my Meg's pad flew apart....Ive heard they had a bad batch, anyone know if there making good on replacements ?

So back to topic... you guys recommend I get 3M P-III MG to use on a white pad after using DACP on a yellow?

Will I really need anything else after that prior to Zaino?

That's what I used. DACP is a polish after it cleans so if you work it, you could go straight to Zaino after washing with Dawn to remove polish oils.

Or, as I did, use 3M PIII-MG on white pad, polish out. I then went to Menzerna-FP with a grey pad, but you can use something like Megs #3 or as some people have done, #7 SCG or hand glaze. You just Dawn wash to remove oils, I then did one more quick wash with Z7 to remove any remaining oils and to remove any possible soap film from Dawn. Dry and Z away! This would give the best bonding surface for Zaino. Go look at my SC430 if you doubt the technique. Yes it looks great in the pics, but I still need a bit more work to make it perfect.

Take your time, check your work as you go along, see the post on PC pressure and technique on handling it. Some use the side handle, other don't. Whatever is comfortable for you is what's important.

Now, go have fun with the PC! Post a pic or two, like a B4 and after if possible.

Thanks for all the information, but I have one more question. After you applied DACP on your sexy SC430, did you look at your paint, see haze or marring, and THEN decide to go further w/ 3M MG & FP?

I really don't want to go overboard on my detailing project because my car won't be going to any shows, contests, customers, or a GARAGE! heh

I just want a generally swirl/scratch-free car. I'm hoping DACP can do its thing without much hassle and since I already have a white pad...maybe I'll get the 3M P-III Glaze and skip your last step (FP on gray).

BTW, where is the best place to pick up 3M P-III MG? CMA and Ketone don't carry it, but I'm hoping maybe a local place has it.

Yes you CAN just use PIII-MG and white polish pad. If swirls are not that bad, you can go that route. It may take a bit more time, as it's not as aggressive as DACP, so you may have to work it more.

I get all 3M products from local auto paint supply house. They have most 3M and others as well.

Yes you can skip FP. If you want, go use like a #7 or hand glaze. If waxing, use 3M PIII-FG as that has carnuba in it as well as oils and other paint enhancements.

After PIII-MG, look at the finish. If it looks good enough for you and you don't want to spend more time, fine. No one's going to hammer you on why you did not use another product to get one step further. PIII-MG does make a finish really stand out.

If Zaino is your route, Dawn wash, Z7 wash and dry. Then go and spray Z6 and Zaino away with ZFX/Z5. Thin is the secret. Too much and you end up with a mess. It should look as if you almost did not put Z5 on. It's the layering process that gets the results. No more than 3 coats in 24hrs. If you like how it looks you could then go ZFX/Z2. Z2 brings up more gloss. Remember, Z6 B4 and after each coat for maximum effects.

Questions on Zaino, ask Sal Zaino!

If you guys had a choice...what would be the best and only follow-up step to use after DACP/yellow?

FP or 3M P-III-MG? either one on white

I assume the last step I would use one is too remove any marring from the DACP or haze. Do either of these fill?

After using one of these I would hopefully be able to procede to Zainoing (after Dawn/Z7 of course)

If you look at my SC430 below, this was done with 3M PIII-MG with white pad, then followed with Menzerna-FP with a grey pad as I wanted just the polish to do the work and not the pad. Kind of like applying by hand, but much faster and better results.

I always step down in pads when doing a car, so I've done DACP/yellow then DACP/White followed by 3M PIII-MG White and final high gloss polishing with a grey pad and a very fine glaze.

Those are my results, yours may differ.
