First Speeding Ticket

I say take a look to see if you can find your gonads, fess up, and pay for the ticket. You are guilty and trying to get out of it which is a real chickensh*t way to go. Try being a man and take what's coming to you. No sympathy Bud, none at all. We were all 17 once and most of us didn't even have a car. Just tell your parents about it and go on with it. Lesson learned. Don't be stupid again.

Take it like a MAN and quit trying to weasel out of it like a small boy.

I agree and to the thread author, slow down fool....:grrr

Ok guys I went into court prepared for the worst and came out of a $200 ticket paying a grand total of twenty dollars.

I have to go to teen court, I will be given my punishment there by my peers of 10-30 hours of community service and two terms on the jury.

I am so very happy and I feel very lucky as well

Thanks for all of yall's help :)

As always,

Aviator

No big license suspension? I was walking and bumming rides for quite a while back when I was a teenager :o

Glad you came through this OK, I'll be interested to hear what the peer-court comes up with.

Like others have said, I usually don't try to talk my way out of it. I've gotten 2 verbal warnings from RCMP in the last year.

Best one was my second time, I was coming out just about to hit a 100km/h highway and this car in front of me was going sooo slow, so I dropped gears and went out and passed. This was also the same day I got my new 'High Performance' rated tires so I wanted to see what it felt like. I was probably doing about 130km/h and I saw the lights hit me. Cop asked if I knew what I was being pulled over for... I said I had a good idea. Then he asked if I had a history of doing speeding (None on record) so i said no. He checked out my history and said, okay I'm going to give you a warning, but remember its dark and there are alot of animals on this highway, so take it easy.

Guy was really nice actually, and I got out of the ticket with just a verbal warning, so no record again.

C/N: Just be honest with the cops, and pay the fine I guess.

This is when it is nice to know someone. My friend rec a ticket from a local cop. A state trooper plays in his dart league. All it took was a call from the state trooper, my friend was told to plead not guilty and the cop wouldn't show for the date w/ the magistrate.

I will absolutely post back on here after the teen court date.

It actually sounds pretty cool, I know a girl that is an appointed lawyer for alot of the cases that go through it. She volunteers of course but apparently you can do everything from baliff to judge.

Enjoy teen court. I helped start one up in my hometown almost 20 years ago. Glad to hear they are still in use. Since most teens will just get a slap on the wrist through the normal system, the additional punishment of the teen court system generally reduce the likelihood of future criminal actions. At least that is what happened in my hometown. The payoff for participating and taking the punishment (jury duty, essays, community service, etc) is to avoid having the infraction included on your record. A pretty good trade off.

Luigi,

How did he catch you on horseback and where do they mount the lights?

Alright teen court went extremely well I think I was in the building all of five minutes and I'm off clean record and all after two jury terms and ten hours of community service, which I have to have for college applications anyway. :)

Again, Thank you guys so much for all the pointers and I'll keep all of it in mind next time, which hopefully won't happen.

this brings back memories of my first ticket. 57 in a 40. the cop was actually pretty nice though and dropped it down to 49 in a 40 since i had a clean record. still cost me 185 bucks though. went out and bought a Valentine 1 radar detector after that.

Pay the fine, go to the school, and send an extra $5 with with the ticket. Mail it in. Reason! I read this in a mag years ago. When you mail in the check to pay the fine. Send $5 extra. The BWV in your state will return the $5 bucks in a check. DO NOT CASH IT! The fine will be recorded as payed, but the case will not be closed. Then the BMV can not give you the 2 points for speeding. A moving violation. Then foreward the info to your insurer and raise your rates. I have done this many times, Neve got the points and the fine was paided. Now that I'm in my 50's, I don't speed as much. Slow down, you don't want a screwed up driving record. It can hinder your being hired on a job,and other crazy mess!
