First Rotary outting.... (NO 56K)

Jim, I never really use 106 with wool. I use it as a finish polish w/foam only when I finish with a rotary.



The blue/green wools are very nice to work with. I did use a foamed wool again today and it worked good. I really like the edge wool pads alot though. Very smooth running and perfectly balanced. I need some new ones cause a boat I did on Sat killed my yellow wool.



I did a 98 MB SL500 white (wholesale job) today with just SIP and an orange pad and it came out very nice and glossy. I did not take any before pics, but I might have some afters tomorrow when I go back to do a 85 Vette black (bad repaint). Tomorrow is wool day!



I did try the SIP on the the blue edge foam pad and it did the same screeching and hopping.

what are your experiences with that!

Presta wool is the same as Edge I'm assuming...



Man you guys have me pumped up to use my wool, should be here by Friday.



Oh AL, what polish do you recommend with green wool/blue wool?

If you have a junky door and you are new to rotary polishing, try to burn the paint near one of the edges on purpose just so you can see what it takes. Its good to have an idea of what is going to burn the paint and what is not.

I just use a fine polish that has a long work time and low/no dusting, for me that is OP.

Yes OP works good with wool. On foam I do not care for it too much, but it really does good on wool with no spatter. Presta polishes are really nice and the best I have ever tried with wool so far. They leave no residue and clean up is a breeze as they flash off with nothing left on the paint and the lubes dissapear. Presta/Edge did an excellent job working together on this set up for sure.



OP is nice and can be worked in longer if you are cautious.



HTEC/HTHC work good on wool too for heavy jobs.

I think it was me and David Fermani who really pushed the wool along with Anthony Orosco. After that everyone started using the wool and found it to be very easy. I am glad the wool myth is behind us now and most people here are having excellent correction results with it.

Menzerna IP is also very good with wool.

Jim, that work on the door looks great!



This thread, http://autopia.org/forum/detailing-product-discussion/90854-attention-corvette-owners.html, has a picture of a door that was done with IP and the purple foamed wool. It left an LSP ready finish. That thread also has some pretty good dialog in it about the results you can get with that pad. David Fermani and I end up arguing about it, but it's all good. The fact is that it is a very good correction pad that scales nicely according to how aggressive the polish is you use with it. And it may (as my results have been) or may not (as David's -and others- results have been) leave you with an LSP ready finish. Again, alot of that depends on what polish you use with it. I've used SIP with it a few times, and I love it! My results (and again, YMMV) were LSP ready with the purple foamed and SIP.



Since I've gotten my edge wool and purple foamed wool, I haven't put a foam pad on my buffer.
 
Yeah Jim, I use OP with green wool, but my goto is pretty much yellow wool with OP.

Just remember that you don't always need to use wool for every car you do. Hondas (I've done atleast) can be done with a makita and blue edge pad with OP and finsh LSP ready.



Always use the least aggressive way of removing defects as long as you get those defects out.

Funny, a detailer was watching me today work on a 86 black vette that was beat and he said, " How do you get wool to come out so great with hardly any swirl marks"? I asked him to show me what he uses and he came out with some old 3m compound. I just laughed and said that's why. He was using 3m wool too.:clap: I said, swirlamatic you are keeping me busy!:secret :2thumbs:

Thanks for the replies everyone, Spoiled how about SIP with wool? I just bought a bottle and I cant use it with my Edge foam, hopefully I can use it with my Edge wool!

As soon as I saw the masking tape on that practice door, I knew I didn't even need to look at the job he had done polishing the door; anyone that has O(bsessive) C(ompulsive) D(etailing) to the point of masking off a practice door.... well, you just know that their work is going to be absolutely top-notch. And it was. :)
