First Rotary Detail

Detail time!
Hello again-
As you may know I just purchased a Chicago Electric Rotary and I used it on a car for the first time a few days ago. I've been practicing about every day on a junk hook and then went to the car. This is my sisters car, 1995 Chevy Lumina with like 65,000 miles or so. I never really got around to doing it before like I should have and it was good practice so I went at it.

For those of you who are intimidated- I had no issuse with foam pads and even though it was hard to control, it was still managable. I would recomend practicing to get the feel first. I tried and tried to marr the spare hood but I wasn't able to with foam pads. With the wool...it was a short amount of time to do so...

3m SMR- Rotary Polishing pad
Mothers Power Polish- Polishing Pad PC
NxT- PC

Other than some major build up of the 3m on the paint there were no issues with anything. I was really surprised how well the finish came out and I hope you are too. The before pics were taken about a year ago and the paint hasn't gotten better since then.

Looks great! It's kind of hard to see with partial sun and a lot of clouds, but a great improvement! Glad to hear you tackled the rotary! It only gets easier the more you use it! I've never used the power polish, but any reason why you did not use the rotary with that? Nice job

The only reason I didn't use the Power Polish with the rotary was because I didn't want to risk any holograms while removing any that I may have put in... if any. I'm sure later on down the road when I have more confidence I will but for now I'm comfortable with following up with the PC. It's been raining for the past few days but if I decide to put a coat of Natty's on I'mm try to get some full sun shots for you guys.

Congratulations on taking the plunge.
You will find that as you become more comfortable with the machine and pads, that it will be easier to control ... also some product/pad combinations are easier than others.
 
Congratulations on the first rotary detail. I just ordered the CE rotary and hope I can do as well. Looks great! Just curious, at what speed did you run the rotary?
 
I ran it between 3 and 4ish. Anything below seemed to slow and above was too high. Use whatever you feel confortable with. My only problem was with the way I hold it, my thumb is close to the dial and without me knowing it I bump the RPMs up. That may be something to keep an eye on just incase...
