First Rotary Customer Car vs. WETTNESS!

Today I recieved a Dodge Daytona. In rough shape, and the pictures don't show it. Its original paint, I'm guessing around 10-12 years old, and my PC wasn't touchin it. SO I wiped out the rotary, and even used a wool pad on the roof.



I'm tired, and just finished so I don't want to stay up. (Big detail at a show tomorrow). Weather again wasn't great. Showers off and on, humidity to the point products wouldn't dry. Ugh, I need a new job. I lost 5 lbs in the last two weeks, but I'm better toned now, so I don't mind.



Anyways, exterior and engine bay only on this bad boy, and she's now show ready. There was a little surprise in the back when I went to go and clean the interior glass. :cooleek:



Processes: Engine bay:



Wipe out trusty toothbrush with degreaser

Dress with Armor All



Time spent: 1 hour

Exterior Processes:



Wash

Clay (whole claybar)

Tried to remove roof oxidation, which turned out to be clear coat eching. Ended with no steps forward with the PC.

Polished with rotary and wool pad. Looks better, but still highly swirled. Needs to be repainted.



Polished rest of vehicle with rotary and SSR2.5

Went over with PC and SSR2.

Topped with NXT.

Trim with Trim Restorer

TurtleWax shine on tires



Time spent:

6-7 hours.

You brought all the gloss back! Too bad it isn't taken care of...if you can't get rid of all the swirls, then who can? Your work is awesome Steve...one question tough....IROC? ***?!?!?

Yup, the made IROC Daytona's. This one is just running a **** load of boost, and a NOS bottle in the back. ;) It stands up to its name. I smoked the tires letting out the cluth at 2000RPM. **** that thing is sensitive.
 
Excellent job Steve! The roof came out really good for such a poor starting point. Besides, once the clear starts to go, not too much you can do anyway.



:cool: car! My brother's wife used to have a regular Charger when he first met her. Detailed it about 12-13 years ago before she sold it. Paint wasn't all that great even though it was just a few years old, so I can imagine what you were dealing with.
 
the daytona was the iroc car for a few years after they dropped the camaro. they only made iroc daytonas for maybe a couple years.
 
Damn man!! Amazing job!!!! Hell of a job also on that engine for only 1 hour!



I am so scared to do an engine, any tips you would offer? Did you hose it out?

With a few mods those little Daytona's will scream. They were some of the first boosted 4 cylinders before boosted 4 cylinders were cool!!

Tips for an engine bay? Um, be prepared to have to replace something if you screw up. I have a little fund stored away for just that rainy day. :o

No, but seriously, I didn't even have to break out the hose on this one. I just used a degreaser with various brushes, and went at it. Used more degreaser to wash the gunk away. Then let 'er air dry, and lathered it with armor all. Its not a hard process, but it can be finicky when you're working around things like ECU's and intakes.

Nice work! I just can't get over that car. LOL. Haven't seen one of those ANYWHERE on the road in ages. Thought they were all in the scrap heap by now.l
