First Real Detail

Buy more stuff...
Ok, so the weather was nice today, and my garage was empty. I decided to do it in there because I have never actually done a wash before and I figured that in the shade would be the best place to teach myself as well as my little bro.

My procedure was quite simple, as I don't have the drive to buy any PB stuff or other really good quality products.

First, wash with Maguires Gold Class Car Wash and Conditioner (The 8.99 Target stuff)
rinse, dry with a Maguires Water Magnet and about 4 of my Vroom 12 pack MFs.

Then I broke out my new purchase for today, the Maguires Quik Clay set or whatever. I can't really comment on the quality other than I did notice some smog colored stuff that I brought out of the hood, other than that it either sucks, or my car wasn't that bad. But I find the later hard to believe as I strongly doubt that this or any other real detailing has been done to it in its life.

The last step was a layer of Black Magic Liquid Wax applied with some MF appliers (Maguires) then wiped off with more of my Vroom MFs.

I'm sure that most of you don't really care to know how I did everything exactly, but I thought that it might be a good idea to document everything how I did it because then if you see anything I did wrong you could criticize it (constructive criticizm is always welcome).

Before the pictures, I was thinking about something while I was claying and I would like to know if anyone agrees with me. I was reading about clay bars earlier today before I bought this one and I noticed that some of you are paying quite a pretty penny for the ones you get, and those being just the bars. Now, isn't it strange that I can get a clay bar for roughly $4.00 since the pack came with some Quick Detail spray that is worth 4.99? (as I bought another bottle of that along with the clay pack) This only leads me to confirm my suspicion of poor clay quality, plus since the lube is quick detail of course it is going to make the paint "look" purdy right away, giving false results... Well, enough of that! Onto the pictures, mind you they might be kinda slow becasue I am hosting them from this computer since I don't feel like going out to find an image hosting service.

Oh and btw, my ride is a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. And I might like to note, this bad boy spent about 4 or 5 years of its life out in the country where the bugs are thick and the roads are gravel :mohawk

Well, I guess ya' gotta start somewhere! You will be detailing with boutique brands soon enough. Welcome to the obsession and DC.
