First Proper Paint Prep

Ok, seems I got a bit ahead of myself. I've been reading up on paint prep and polishing and it's a little overwhelming.

I've got quite a few questions but I'll ask a little at a time. Any help greatly appreciated.

My situation is I own a Mazda with black mica paint. I've read that Jap cars have thin paint, so I guess I need to be careful. I obviously don't own a paint thickness gauge. I will be using Zaino products on the car after prep. The car has minor spider webbing.

First question is: as I dont know the thickness of my paint and its a Jap car that is apparently thin should I go with the worst case scenario and use what the prep manual says for paint less than 4 or 5 mill? Which is a Grade 2 polish?

Second question is I have Zaino Z-PC. Is it in the category I want to be using?

Third question is it says in the paint prep manual that you'd have to be an ape to damage your paint with a dual-action orbital polishers. So would you recommend someone who has never used one before go buy one instead of trying to prep by hand?

The manual says that I should use a fine compound to fix the paint, which will leave the surface cloudy (The Zaino site also says Z-PC will do this). Then after that I use a fine polish to correct the haze.

It kinda lost me here. That's if I was up to speed to begin with.

I know I ask a lot of questions and thanks for your help.
