First detailing of my 350Z

Here's some quick snaps after I finished detailing my Z. I've been posting and learning for the last month or so and finally received all my chemicals and tools so that I could get started. Thanks to everyone that helped me along the way. I've been working on her for the past 3 days ! It was my first detail so I'm sure it won't take as long next time.....I hope. I did have to learn how to use my new PC. Although I am a perfectionist so maybe that might have something to do with me taking 3 days. My process went as follows;

Washed twice with Dawn

Autopia's Block, Slide & Waffle Clay Kit

Dawn Wash & Dry

MPPC Yellow LCM pad

Meguire's #9 Yellow pad

Wasn't completely happy with the #9 so I

DACP Yellow pad

#9 Yellow pad

#81 White pad

Z7 Wash & Dry

Damn after writing out my procedure now I know why it took my 3 days !! lol. Well here are some pictures of the finished product. I hate to even drive the car out of the garage now in fear of getting her dirty !!!

Had some left of Z2 so I thought I'd throw a coat on my wheels.

Looks Great !!! :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

Don't worry about the 3 days. Hang around here longer and you'll start detailing things you'd never think of. :D

Is that a PowerShot G3 ?

Mondo terrifico!!! :bow

At one point I owned a '91 Z TT 2-seat. Black Diamond Pearl. Wish I knew then what I know now about car care :D

I must admit that I was surprised to see you using DACP and #9 on a brand new ride.

Again, great job and keep her sparkly!

Hey YIELAR!

Fantastic job!! I am glad it turned out so well!! :up

As to the camera question, it looks like an A70 Canon to me. It is not a G3 as I have the G3 myself.

Cheers!

Tim

Looks nice! What did you use on the tires? They have that nice clean black look that I like, not all shiny and unnatural.

Out of curiosity, why the 3 dawn washes? If it's for the Z regimine, you'd have wanted to do one of them after all the polishing.

Thanks guys ! Let me first say that I let the dealer wash and buff out some minor webbing within the first month I owned it. DOH ! So after using MPPC I wasn't happy so I tried #9 and still had a few areas I wasn' happy with. So I bumped her up to DACP and finally got the finish to where I was happy but had some slight hazing. I then used #9 followed by #81 which gave the finish a mirror like shine.

Yes 2hotford is correct the camera is a Powershot A70 which I bought just to take some pictures of the finished product. I plan to take it back in a couple of days as my Powershot S40 is getting fixed. ( Friend went swimming with it in his pocket while at Merritt Mountain Music Festival those who live in BC will recognize )

The tire treatment was done with Turtle wax's Wet N' Shine I think its called. I want to use the rest up before I go and spend more $$ on something better. I like the results they just don't last longer than maybe 2-3 weeks.

The car is a Canadian Performance model. It has every option except Navigation which I don't need living in Kelowna BC.

I only have another month before I have to put her to sleep for the winter so I'm hoping for great weather until then. ;)

YIELAR,

GREAT WORK GUY!!:xyxthumbs

Good choice on the Z2 for the wheels as any other carnuba type does not last as wheels get HOT as hell!

See, all it took was, try this... nope, tray that.. nope, try this other method.. AHHH NOW WE'RE TALKIN'! DACP does work well if it breaks down, but I always keep moving down in polish till Hand Polish on a finish pad for that mirror shine!

Now, if you need more depth and wettnes, top with Souveran or CMW and really see how deep it gets! If you don't like the wax, strip with Megs APC+ @ 64:1 water/APC+. APC= is an all purpose cleaner for almost everything.

If you ever get some Megs Engine Kote, use that in the wheel wells after washed and dried as it keeps them black w/o picking up debris as other dressings. I also spray it all over the underside suspension. My SC still looks as if it rolled off the factory! Use 303 for the engine dressing, as EK can spatter and you get this milky looking bobs. Or, use a disposable foam paint brush. EK is really a floor wax.. smell it and you'll see what I mean!

For leather: zaino cleaner & "leather in a bottle" or 1z Lederpfedge for weekly keep-clean, then Leatherique once a month if needed.

If you have any coated wood trim in the inside, Z2 works well on that too! My birds eye maple just pops with the z2 on it!

Glad to know it came out well!

Get an Autopia CBT towel or a DFTowel for QD work. Softest towels you can get PERIOD! And, get some Megs FD or Clearkote QS for day-to-day QD to save the Z6 for those special outings!

Regards,

Deanski
