first detail on mt new e36

Where's the full shots maaaaaaaaaaaan?

Do a search on how to clean your pads. Many threads on that subject. You'll see a lot of talk about dawn power dissolve and snappy pad cleaner.

Wait a second, I have detailed more than one e36 and they were all clearcoated, even the 94 that I did recently.

Is it possible that it was either a repaint or that the clearcoat was so damn nasty it turned your pads black? Did you clay before polishing?

I once did a red mercedes that was clearcoated(1998), the paint was so bad my pads turned dark brown!

Either way AMAZING :goodjob correction for your first time, and if you want to wetsand you can probably ditch those etchings for good. Just make sure you use something real fine like 2500.

On a side note, I really really like e36s, pretty much my favorite BMW when you update them with hella projectors (not cheap ebay ones, the hella ones look OEM) and some (non ricer) LED tails.

Oh yea and also, all e36 headlights I have seen were glass, yours may just not be clear from many tiny stone chips.

jsut noticed it is a repaint, some over spay on the rubber seals on the rear windows, but its fine because its my first car, i also noticed a TON of little scratched that were in the shape of a fish hook

and some of the etchings are showing primer/metal what should i do?

the US spec headlights were always plastic, the glass ones are EURO spec

im think i'm just gonna get some better bulbs, because after hitting the lights with OC on yellow then OP on white then poli-seal they look way better

I use Dawn Power Dissolver to clean my pads, and then I rinse them out real good. After that, I use Micro-Restore in a bucket of water and let the pads soak for a while. After that, I rinse them out again. I am going to get me some DP pad cleaner sometime soon.

It depends a lot on your location... How long did you take to do the exterior? Considering it wasn't a perfect job (very understandable, since the was so wrecked that only wetsanding would have a chance at restoring it properly), I'd probably say around $35-40 an hour... Again, this depends a lot on your location.

Oh.. and dress those wheelwells!

i will dress the wheel well but i didnt feel like wasting tire gel on them, i'm going to find some cheap tire foam like no touch to use

Huge improvement! Actually, considering the condition of the paint, be glad it is single stage. You have a lot more paint thickness to play with and can remove much deeper defects than if it was a base coat/clear coat finish. :)
