first d/a, pc or flex?

well, ill be buying my first d/a this week and i was originally planning on the pc, but have heard alot of recomendations on the flex. so what do you guys suggest i get? and can you lead me to a good place to buy with a pad kit? this will mostly be used on my car, but i will be doing other jobs for people i know
 
bowtie-guy- If you can swing the additional cost of the Flex 3401 I'd certainly get that. Sorry, I dunno who has the best kits/prices at present :nixweiss
 
My first polisher was the Flex, I wanted the best I could get in a DA and it certainly earns it marks. I think of the Flex in a different league than other DA's (inbetween the PC and Rotaries), my uncle and I did a comparison on the PC and the Flex, the Flex broke down the polish faster, plus it does not create as much noise or vibrations (the PC has a ton of vibration) If you have the funds to get the Flex go for it!



The only gripe is the inability to change the BP, but that is what a second polisher could be good for, whether a PC or other DA or a rotary. Even with my Metabo Rotary I still use the 6.5" pads, but I can change them out when I need to do smaller areas.

if you can swing the extra cost, the Flex would be choice. on the other hand, you still can't go wrong with the PC...
 
well, i think ill put up the extra money, so i dont feel the need for an upgrade in the near future. so, any idea where i can get a good pad kit for it? or suggestions on which pads i should get? thanks!!
 
autogeek has a few nice kits with the FLEX. $330 gets you a kit with some pads and a bag(oooh pretty bag).

Just the Edge adaptor.



When I finally get around to having my pal cut down a Flex plate for use with smaller pads I'll post about how it works/doesn't.



But I predict that the overall size/configuration of the machine will make smaller pads less useful than most people expect. Note that it's often easier to do tight spots with the outer portion/edge of a *larger* pad anyhow. Much as I like using 4" (and now 3" too) pads for various things, in most cases they're not really necessary IMO.
 
The Flex DA does seem like a decent machine. But for $300+ I would expect an alloy or metal backing plate and drive gear assy. And an included option for smaller pads. I'd still have to go with the Makita 9227 over the Flex as an addition to the "arsenal" along with my Cyclo.
