First C&B-- 1970 Camaro

This was really only my second attempt at doing an entire cars worth of paint correction.



I got some new products and the swirls + holograms left over from the bodyshop and my dads questionable washing techniques were driving me nuts.



So I went at the Camaro with hopes of acheiving some Autopian acceptable results.



Process:



Wash

Meguiars GC and Lowes Grout Sponge

Clay with Megs OTC clay and GC Shampoo + Water Mix for lube

Dried with leaf blower + FK425 & Walmart Kitchen WW towels



Wheels and tires with AA wheel cleaner + scrub with wash mitt

Lightly polished the wheel lips with Never Dull and a Vroom orange microfiber



Tires shined with AA Extreme Shine Gel



Paint Correction

Harbor Freight Chicago Electric Rotary

Roof, Trunk & Hood -- Orange Foam LC Pad w/UCCL (900-1500-1000rpm)

Entire Car-- White pad w/BlackFire SRC Finishing Polish (900-1500-1000rpm)



LSP

PB Natty Blue- Removed w/PakShak MF

Dusted with FK425

Comments and advice are very welcome! The black stripes on the hood are still not 100% swirl free so I am going to have to go back and address those, but otherwise I was pretty satisfied with the results.
 
great job and you look like you take as "good" pics as me, it is my biggest problem when tyring to share my work...
 
Thanks for the flashback - my first car was a 1972 Z-28, it was 3 years old and I bought it from my girl friend's brother. My Dad must have been crazy to let a 16 old kid loose with a killer hot rod like that.



I really like your car, if you ever think of selling, let me know.
 
Thanks for all the compliments guys. The car is lots of fun and I thought it deserved some love. Unfortunately, its efficiency, or lack there of, is measured in gallons per miles.



I don't have any good full car shots after the detail but I'll post some I have from a past wash and wax I gave it over xmas break.

How do you like Harbor freight orbital? I put my eye on one. Is it worth it? Well, according to your pictures it does the work.
 
I BELIEVE I bought a bunch of the walmart towels you are referring to a year or two ago. IIRC, they didn't pass the CD-test, as they did induce some marring in the surface of a new cd. Perhaps on some hard clear coats they are not an issue but I'd maybe be careful using them on any soft clears. I did however end up using them for alot of other cleaning, like leather, etc.

I THOUGHT I liked those WW towels but 'drew' was right, I just re-tested them and they didn't pass the CD test... So back to the drawing board we go for cheap drying towels.

I have never used any other rotary, so I can't say how it compares, but I honestly have very little issues with the HF rotary. My biggest issue was that the dial has numbers like (I, II, III..) instead of stating the actual RPMs. However I found a post on Autopia that explains how many RPMS are associated with each number, so that is no longer really a problem.



For the 30 bucks I paid for it, I think its great. For budget minded hobbyist, i think its just right.
