Ever since I have started reading the Autopia forums my family thinks that I have developed some sort of OCD.
Yesterday I spent ALL day (aprox. 9hrs) detailing the exterior of my Dad's '70 Camaro.
It was my first time trying to document a detail from start to finish, and it was only my second time doing a paint-correction detail on par with Autopian standards.
The paint is about 1.5 years old but between the bodyshop's buffer trails and the restoration shop induced swirls, the paint has always had room for improvement. Additionally, my dad induced a few swirls while I was away at school. The car rarely gets "dirty", it mostly gets washed because it gets dusty.
Wash:
Megs Gold Class Shampoo
Lowes Grout Sponge
Dried using a Leaf Blower + Walmart Kitchen WW Drying Towel
Clay:
Meguiars OTC Clay
Meguiars GC Shampoo + Water Mix for Lube
Wheels:
Armor All Wheel Cleaner
Old Wash Mit
Armor All Tire Gel
Paint Correction:
HF Chicago Electric Rotary
Orange Pad -- Presta Ultra Cutting Creme Light @ 1500-1000rpm (Roof, Hood and Trunk only)
White Pad -- BlackFire SRC Finishing Polish @1500-1000rpm (Entire Car)
LSP:
PB Natty's Blue
Removed with PakShak MF and FK425 QD
It looks good from a distance after a wash and clay but don't let the lighting + angle fool you.
Before
Trunk after UCCL
Trunk after UCCL and Blackfire SRC
After LSP:
This is before the paint correction, but I like the picture:
Being the Newb that I am, the hood didn't come out 100% hologram and swirl free, so when I work up the energy I'm going to have to have another go at it.
Enjoy
