FireFox 2

btw, for those of you still using IE, I find a good alternative (to those websites where you just *have* to use IE) is a browser called Maxthon. It's great, free, and not fully of spyware/adware. It's also highly customizable, although that's not really important anyways since its only my secondary browser to my secondary browser ;)

I don't have it in my add ons either. Hmm. <---that is underlined red to tell me the word is misspelled. That would be the dictionary right? If so I bet they just have it in the download now.

Ahhhh I think I see why. The download page has all the distributions by language. The dictionaries probably are packaged with the install there. When I downoaded mine last week, there were no options to chose a language so the dictionary was likely not packaged in the install. I doubt they will distribute it by language when it is officially released...

Maxthon still uses the IE engine and is vulnerable to a lot of the same exploits that IE is. If you are worried about IE, Maxthon is only marginally more secure.

I am going to wait for the official release tonight before putting it on my home PC and see if there is any difference. I used to get this error/memory code all of the time and it seems to pop up more with the new version. It only happens when I am online with AutoCAd open though.

All my extensions survived the upgrade with the exception of Tab Mix Plus. Fortunately, it appears that FF2 incorporates the features of Tab Mix Plus that I used most often, so for me (so far, anyway), the upgrade was pretty seamless. I gained the spell checking, and everything else seems to be working as it used to.

FWIW,

Yeah, I was talking to my friend and he said he used to use Tab Mix as well but doesn't need it now. Except that the new tabs open to a blank page instead of the home page? I guess Tab Mix did that?

Very cool! Just downloaded the latest Firefox and a few of the add-ons offered. :) You guys gotta get the Cooliris :bigups Thanks again for the heads up

Really? I downloaded the FF2 Beta, but uninstalled it after it said Tab mix wasn't compatible. You gotta love Mozilla, anyone still using IE (I don't care if it is IE7) needs to make their way to Firefox.

Looks like I'm gonna have to reinstall the 2 Beta. :woot:

rjstaff - I just suggested Maxthon as it was better interface and feature-wise than IE, not necessarily more secure. But thanks for pointing that out - I should've done so in my original post, lest people get the wrong idea. That is why we use FF afterall, right? :D

I'm using FF 2 right now. I like the improvements they made, however some things I've already noticed:

1) The tab-opening lag is *still* present. My tab mix plus extension is disabled, so that's not even it. Looks like there's still some work to be done on some long-standing bugs.

2) I read something about the buttons being able to "glow" - I am experiencing no glow on buttons. Just the standard raised/unraised effect.

Other than that, it's working very well.

Also, Fasterfox has been disabled.

I'd have to disagree with that - just some quick observations:

1) No progress bar on tabs

2) No central close X on the right side

3) No "undo close tab" - a very important feature!

Yup, but I'm sure Tab Mix Plus should have an update out within 1-2 weeks :bigups

oh snap! it is there. well well :lol

Previously, I was able to right click anywhere on the page and have that option. I'm glad its not gone forever... thanks!

Ah! I just realized that Session Manager isn't compatible with FF2, looks like I'll have to wait...I need Session Manager

Edit: Holy crap...didn't realize it wasn't a beta anymore! :Downloading: :bow
