FinishKare products?

Looking for a "new look" and maybe some extra durability on my vehicles. Currently using AIO and UPP, but Ive read (and noticed) that UPP doesnt stay as long as I would want. Ive heard good things about FinishKare products but Im not sure exactly which ones to get.

I already use PB SSRs for polishing, so I dont need any polish products. Basically just need a Last Step Product and a quick detailer. Ive heard great things about 425 as QD, but Im unclear on which LSP to use (FX100, 218, 2180, etc). Im also confused as to how "845 Insulator Wax" fits into here. Is it by Finish Kare also? Ive seen it under the name Collinite, but Ive seen several references to people using it with 425.

Also, while Im ordering, any suggestions on other products? I like Lexol for my leather stuff, but am looking for a good vinyl cleaner/protectant while Im at it. And I dont know how their cleaning products line up, but is any one of them good for getting baked on brake dust off an aluminum wheel? (which apparently was not clearcoated on the inside of the wheel).

Any suggestions, comments, reviews would be appreciated. I searched the board but noticed there isnt a ton of info.

Thanks!

Bence seems to be a good source on the FK stuff.

:o :thx

Chris,

Welcome! Well, FK has a pretty nice range. After the SSRs you won't need an abrasive cleaner, so I'll stick to the LSPs.

218 - It is a sealant conditioner - as FK calls it - and it has very mild cleaning ability, basically to clean up the surface under itself to ensure proper bonding. It has a very involving, warm appearance.

2180 - Pure sealant. Super easy to remove, slick. Reflective and long lasting. Color-true and holds its look for a very long time. In fact, in my experience the FK products look excellent longer than the most. They cure longer as well (few days) and during this time they are improving upon their initial look. When they reach the final state, they lock and stay that way.

216 - Similar to the 218 but enhanced with carnauba. Very slick too, but I can't comment on its durability because it is new for me.

1000P - A synthetic, heavy duty paste wax, with excellent looks and durability. It adds 'another clearcoat' to the finish.

FX-100 - One of my faves ever! It is a awesome spray sealant. Adds a nice look (warm, carnauba-like, but reflective), and a slickness that I've never experienced before. Addicting.

2685 Pink Wax - A soft, carnauba enhanced blend, with a reflective, high definition look. One of the greatest carnaubas of all time. It adds another nice dimension to almost every other product.

425 - A wonderfully universal quick detailer. It adds something positive to everything: gloss, slickness and a little protection. Great on glass, laptop screens, electronic appliances, you name it.

This line is really outstanding - just as Collinite's. The 845 is a very unique wax. Spreads unbelievably and holds on strongly. Has wonderful, tiny beads - extremely satisfying to observe it.

FKs love to be worked in well at first. You have to go rather slowly, meticulously with them, ensuring that the pores of the paint are filled properly. This sound a bit funny, but with especially 2180 you have a special feel thatthe product does exactly this. The initial applications can therefore be a bit harder (not hard by any means!). The second/third coats are even easier. You can apply them on top of each other; basically no wait between layers. OK, there is a 15-20 min waiting time, but this is no biggie compared to the other products' 12-24 hours. The whole layer-pack can cure together. Avoid moisture for 72 hours (even dew). That's it.

So this would be in the same class as AIO or prime?

17 is a polish with no protection. Something like SSR1. 185 is a cleaning sealant glaze with good protection. However, I cannot comment on its durability, because the stuff is rather new to me. Two things are sure: thin as water, and has a beautiful, fruity scent.

tdekany has more experience with it.

I just polished my car with OC & OP. Topped it with #185. Very slick and very darkening LSP. This maybe the best product for light colors like silver/gold imho. I "must" product.

I like Wolfgang's Vinyl Protectant (use it exclusively) b/c it smell very nice and depending on how it is applied can leave a matte or shiny finish.

For wheel cleaners I swear by Poorboy's SPray and Rinse. Amazing stuff. :xyxthumbs

oaww,

As the others said. FX-100 separates pretty quickly. There is a 2 finger thick light yellow liquid at the top, and a darker fluid below.

Thanks for all the great info!

I think I might want to take my detailing in a different direction, and start going more for looks than durability (anything to get out of the house during the summer "sorry dear I have to wax again!")

I was basically thinking Pink Wax topped with either 425 or FX100. I figure that should handle the looks, not necessarily durability but Ill keep up with it (at least on my car ;) ).

Does this sound about right?

Thanks!
