Finest of Fine Pads

What's the finest pad you've ever used.

What have you used it with and why?

I've tickled a car with a 100ppi pad but found it too fine and grippy?

Edge White ftw so far for me.

I have a soft white 90PPI pad. I think the LC red and blue pads are very soft as well. These pads are for glazes, AIO's or waxes.

I've used the pads that came with my Cyclo polisher. Does anyone know what ppi they are?

btw, Cylco is such a pita, great product but horribly unreliable i've found :(

white is 80, green 70. Not sure what the firmer yellow and orange are - 60 & 50 respectively perhaps?

What about the Cyclo have you found unreliable about it?

Have you spoken with the Aussie Distributor or Cyclo directly to get help?

My cyclo broke, some internal parts of the motor and was going to cost as much as a new machine to repair :(

I can't remember but I think it was armature?

I have a 2 Rotex's and a 2 Rotary Festool units now, they work great, the rotary is a little heavy but smooth, powerful, reliable.

long to no see, how have you been?

What was the 100ppi pad.

I have managed to get a red edge pad Im not sure of the ppi but its pretty soft, works fine with all the usual stuff for me. But i do prefer my Lake Country black and blue pads. Im trying to get a red one in the LC range

3M UltrafinaSE and their blue pad, not sure of the ppi but it's softer than a baby's butt, finishes great and works wonders on black paint.

I dunno the ppi of the white Cyclo pads, but IME they're a good bit more aggressive than many "finishing pads".

I differentiate between the ppi and the overall fucntional aggressiveness. Some pads are more porous than others yet are very gentle (and vice-versa too).

Sorry to hear about your Cyclo's problems...my experiences have been quite different. My older one was over 20 years old when I sent it in for a going-over (and many of those years were spent in a downright abusive commercial environment). The guys at CycloTookmakers said it didn't *really* need anything except an good (interior) cleaning and some lube, but IIRC they did change out the brushes while they had it apart. Forget what it cost but it was negligible.

My newer Cyclo is only about five years old, and it's not being used commercially, but it hasn't had any problems either. Seems like the good ones are very reliable and the bad ones are very unreliable :nixweiss

Lake Country Red Pad. The one AG recommend for wax and sealant application

I use it with Driven Quick spray concentrate, Showroom Glaze or my own machine applyable QD, after 106, 85RD or Ultra gloss superpolish.

Sometimes I'll work the spray in for 30 mins on a panel at 800 rpm. The wetness and colour enhancement is insane after that time.

Lake Country Red Pad is by far the softest.

If your cars paint is soft then thats the pad to finnish with.

Perfect for applying fine polish and sealants with no chance of holograms.

Easier and better finnish than a PC as well.

I don't understand the purpose of working a QD into the paint for 30 minutes by rotary. Most QD's are water and silicone oils. I'd think that would affect the bonding of any good sealant(carnaubas would be ok tho). Why not use a dedicated acrylic glaze?

Tony, I was amazed the first time I tried 3M Ultrafina and their blue pads, it was on a black Nissan that started off with 3M Extra Cut 3000 and wool. It finished up with no halograms - checked under shop lights and in the sun, and this was by me on my first attempt, truely remarkable if you knew me!
