Finaly got my new toy! (1 pic)

FYI, Hitachi's are available at Toolup.com. Just got mine for $174, including shipping. Only took 3 days after ordering.

I thought the Hitachi was made in Japan but it's not. Oh well. I do like the free bag with the Makita. Hmmmm. Eh, I know both are really good. Can't wait to try it.

Although those pads aren't something I would use on my new Mustang you can certainly save them for a beater you might run into in the future. I'm sure they aren't that horrible; their made out of wool and they fit on your buffer; they got to work for something otherwise they wouldn't have called them wool pads.

Got the same toy last week. Put it through some tests this weekend. I'm using the two pads that came with the machine.

I'm very new at all this, so my opinion should mean nothing to you. I used a 3m Compound product on my 67 Firebird. I did the whole car today using the lighter yellow pad. I tried the heavier white pad earlier, and just my opinion that the yellow pad would leave less swirls.

I do have many years experience with Grinders and Polishers of all differnent sizes, just no experience with Polishing Paint.

The Makita feels well made, the speed adjustments are really nice. It does get a little heavy as you hold it over the middle of the hood, but I'm betting you guys are all used to that.

I'm waiting until later in the week to make at least one more pass on the car to try to remove all the swirls. I'm going to go try and find some finer pads to use.

I saw you say you are going to use 6" or was it 6 1/2". Either way, I did a quick search on the Edge Systems, and saw the adapter needed for the Makita. In that section there was no choice for a Pad that small. They were all 7" or above.

I just joined this forum, I'll be posting some stuff looking for tips.

Thanks in Advance.

Hey Coupe,

Have you had a chance to use your new toy since the weather has been getting a little nicer? Okay it was one day of sunshine...but I'm still curious! :)

Coupe, past quote, "I want one sooooooo bad"!

I'm really glad you bit the bullet and bought it, you could dam near feel the want through the computer!!! You are the kind of person who will do wonders with the right tools. You have the Love/desire and seem to be as willing to learn as anyone I have ever seen in any endeaver!

I wish you all the luck in the world, just don't forget to stop and "Smell the Roses" once in a while, this is just in case it's burnt paint, LOL.

All the luck, Changeling

Have fun Coupe. It's a great machine. Mine has been good to me for quite a few years. It gets quite a bit of use during the spring and summer seaons (and even in the winter) here in GA. :D
