Finally! She's home, detailed, and picturized! :) ('06 Accord Coupe)

Well, after much ado, my new car is finally home. W00t! :howdy
For those that like the story behind the pictures, here it is: My '91 Lebaron finally suffered a fatal transmission breakdown in November with 193,000 miles. No biggie, I thought, I'd just stick with the truck for a while. The truck, however was killing me on gas, and was starting to show some early warning signs of impending maintenance cash outlays. So, I started looking around to replace it with something more fuel efficient. After much searching, evaluating, test-driving, and an occasional necessary reality-check ("No, you will NOT buy that 300ZX twin turbo, even if it is a great deal, what praytell will you drive in the wintertime?), I decided on the Accord coupe. I was initally looking around for a good used one until I discovered through the beauty of the internet what I could actually get a new one for. I was completely positive that I did NOT want the nav, right up till I started playing with it. :p Anyway, shopped around a bit, got a couple dealers competing for my business, and ended up buying from the dealer that had given me my first and best internet quote.

The first snag was that nobody in the southeastern Wisconsin area had the ground effects in stock. Those had to be ordered, and I had it arranged that the dealership was going to deliver the car to the guy who I had lined up to do the paint protection film. When they went to deliver it to him, they discovered that the clutch was slipping. Rather than monkey around trying to 'fix' it, they elected to just replace the clutch and be done with it. Easier said than done. The '06 apparently has some change to the transmission that requires a special tool to replace the clutch (never did find out exactly what it was or what it was used for). So.... waited another few days for the tool, and they were finally able to change the clutch. Once they cracked it open, they discovered that the friction surface was actually sheared off the clutch disc. One helluva manufacturing defect there, I'd say! sheesh... Anyway, they changed the clutch disc, pressure plate, and flywheel. Got it all back together just in time for a different guy to come do the paint protection film, and I took delivery that night, and became the proud new owner of a 2006 Accord Coupe V6/6-speed/Nav. My first new car, ever. :)

I did all the prep myself for the film (I literally told them, in a light-hearted tone, "The kid in the service delivery bay with the California Water Blade and the dirty towel is not to come within six feet of my new black car."), wash and PPP. Did some minor cleanup on the rest of the car while the film was being done. Finally drove it home, and just had a few days off to get a good, full detail done. So, enough of the potatoes, here's the MEAT of this thread: :D

My "Pre-depreciation shot" (took a few pix right before I drove it off the lot):

The required reflection shots... :D

Clouds in hood: (and no, that's not a scratch, it's the reflection of a contrail) :)

And, of course, how this all reflects upon the detailer:

I left this last one big, for the sake of detail, so I'll just thumbnail it. At the right angle, in the sun, this is what Nighthawk Black Pearl looks like. It's a really cool effect.

It's a blast to drive, too. I'm gonna get in SO much trouble with this thing.... :)

nice car i was actully looking at the same on for a while. Its a realy nice car im sure youl be very hapy with it. Its nice to see the dealership was willing to replace the clutch and not just tinker with the old one. Very nice. Congrats on the new car

Very Nice Car. Good luck with it. Keep it home so nothing happens to it. HAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, it's garaged at the apartment, but 4 days a week it has to sit in the airport employee lot.... hehe

When I get home from this trip, my new wheels should be here, then it's off to be sandblasted and powdercoated, get tires mounted, and a new round of pictures!! :D Getting the Acura TL '04-'05 5-spoke wheels, powdercoated to a gunmetal/dark gray metallic. Ought to look great with black. :)

Did you get the V6 or the I4? It's definately a nice looking Accord. Have fun with the black paint. It's the only color I ever want to own, but it sure is tough to keep it clean.

I say this shamelessly....It looks better than new!!!

I know how much fun it is to hear this. :D

Look forward to seeing the new wheels. After they are installed I plan on PM'ing you about the planning, process, and cost of powder coating your wheels. I would like to get my wife's wheels powered coated. Would like to get your opinion. I know nothing of these things.

Um...I was distracted by the shiny paint left from the detail....yeah, that's it!

Congrats!

Very sleek shape that begs for carnubas!

I love the subtle changes the new 06' has over the prior year models. The LED tail lights look HOT at night, and that aero kit compliments it well...

Nice ride dude, looks awesome. Your shifter is just like mine (drive a TSX hehe), and LOL @ the pre-depreciation shot.

Thanks for all the compliments. Can't wait to get the new wheels on. :) Swapping to Acura TL 5-spoke wheels, custom powdercoated to a gunmetal/metallic gray color. 17x8, so I'll be able to go to 235's instead of the 215's that are stock. Keeping the factory wheels for winter tires. :)

BTW, if anybody's interested in a set of Michelin Pilots, 215/50/17, with around 1200 miles on them by the time I pull them off, let me know. :)

I think a lowering is in order as well. I would lower the front one and half to two inches and the back one inch to get rid of the squatting look that accords seem to have. Nothing too extreme but would significantly reduce the amount of visible well. 235's on that thing are gonna look SIIICK. Oh yeah, helluva nice job on the detailing as well. Gotta love that Honda paint, so rewarding to work on.

A mild drop is off somewhere in the future. In the neighborhood of an inch or so all around. This car unfortunately has to do winter, so I can't lower it quite as much as I'd like to. Then again, if I could lower it that far, that would mean it wouldn't see winter, which would mean that I wouldn't have it, because I'd have gotten something more "made" to be a sports car. The whole reason for going with the Accord was because it's an "only car". :) If the truck wasn't acting up, I'd have held onto it, saved up downpayment cash for another year or so, and picked up my M3. :D So now, that whole plan has changed somewhat, and with the airline industry as screwed up as it currently is, putting the M3 off a couple extra years into the future probably is, in reality, the right thing to do. :)
