Hi guys

Spent all day today at our warehouse detailing dad's F40

The car is in really good condition, hand built italian quirks aside, so it didnt need much work. Also, since it doesnt have a clear coat and was painted by hand, i didnt want to use too harsh an abbrassive in fear of removing too much paint or nicking some off an edge

This is an awesome example, only 1400 original kms. It is in perfect condition, and everything is still original

Breakdown of products used;

- Menzerna 85RD on white CCS pad - which turned red quickly

- Swissvax light cleaner fluid on black CCS pad

- Swissvax Concorso applied with Micropak Microfibre Applicatord Pad

- Buffed off with Micropak Microfibre Ultra-Plush Towel

- Zaino AIO + Wheelwax on wheels

- Meguairs Plastx on perspex windows

I loved the angle of the first and second pictures. I caught myself ducking as it appeared to be getting ready to run me over. LOL! The car has a look to be admired. Beautiful!!

I wonder if I could get the work done in a day considering my fear of doing something wrong and affecting the paint. Do you get a chance to ever drive it?

hahaha, i was trying to get some of my trademark angle pics lol (check out the pics in my sig) but there wasnt enough room and i couldnt be bothered moving all the cars outside

i dont drive this one, it's a little too intimidating for me and id be nervous as hell getting behind the wheel. Same with the Murci, it's really wide, often going over a typical aussie lane and you gotta be constantly keeping an eye on other drivers around you, and the windscreen is raked so much looking straight out you cant tell where the car is. I drive the F430 sometimes, thats alot more civilised, but i just prefer driving my own car, much less stress and i know it back to front

Must be nice to be absoultly filthy rich there :woot: . Such a shame on the car only have that little KM's on it though. If I pay that much for a car (or whole garage full of them) you better believe I'll be driving the crap out of them. Just once I'd love to see an exotic with a 100,000+ miles on it. At least then your actually using the car the way it was intended to be built for. To be driven. can't take it with you when you die so drive the piss out of it and enjoy it while your here :D (then give it to the grandkids so they can enjoy it)

the grandkids would prefer it be in the same prestine condition it was purchased in

some cars you drive like you stole them, some cars you keep as irreplaceable works of arts

Wow car looks beautiful to have all original stuff!

I didn't realize they used some much carbon fiber on those f40s. Looks like a alot of carbon/kevlar weave in there too.

every body panel is kevlar too

the paint is so thin in some areas you can see the weave through the red, not to mention the frayed strands on the edge of some panels

True enough the F40 and the F50 are definatly collectors items. Any chance your dad was able to get an enzo? (I'd still probably drive them though ;) ) I'm sure he's heard it before but your dad has one amzaing collection. He's not bill gates is he?? LOL

the Enzo is a great technological feat, but it wont be a classic. It will be replaced in a decade by a car with even more electro gizmos, more hp and even better aero wrapped in an uglier body

likewise the F50. It's the F40 that was the last car Enzo ever saw, and the last of the true supercars. Those days are gone, most enthusiast car collectors acknowledge no modern cars will be true revered collectors items like the oldies. The age of electronics and pursuit of ultimate magazine hp figures has diluted the driving and ownership experience

i read a great article in EVO mag where they drove most of the BMW M line-up back to back. And their thoughts echoed the above, having driven the latest M5 and M3, it was the E30 M3 Evo they gave the gong to as the greatest M car. No switchable hp modes, no 11 shift speeds, no iDrive, just a great chassis and the bare essentials for undiluted driving fun

so having said that, the F40 will never be replaced, just handed down as the decades roll on....and id love to get my hands on a mint E30 M3 Evo out of the UK

Boy, i would say that you are lucky to work on a car like that but then i thought about it and came to the conclusion that it is all skill that allows you to work on cars like that. I hope maybe someday i will be granted a wish a get to detail many exotics. Hope you had fun!

it's a car not art, criminal to not drive it IMO.

there's a reason that Ferrari and other prestige marques make sure prospective owners of a limited run car drive em and don't keep them locked up in a garage.
