Finally getting a PC! But confused by all the options!!

I'm finally getting a PC!! Yay!

Here's the list of things that I need your help to figure out though...

1. 7424 vs 7336. I know the latter is the same only with a backing plate, but which is better to buy, 7424 plus backing plate or 7336? Or is there more to it?

2. I also found a good deal on a DeWalt DW443, but limited reviews and almost no information or help on how to use it on this forum

3. What do I need to buy if I get this one from CoastalTool? Porter Cable 7424 Car Buffer, 7424 Polisher

It comes with a "free" 6" counterweight. So I will need a backing plate then? Where would I get that?

4. I want to use the PC as a 5" R.O. sander also. What will I need to get to use that? Do I need a 5" hook-and-loop backing plate for that also?

5. Is this a good deal? Porter-Cable 7424 Kit, Bonus Polisher Kit

Thanks so much!

Yeaaaaaahhhh it seems Autopians today are out detailing their cars more so than answering online posts... But well, the auction was expiring on the DW443 and I decided to make the jump. Got it brand new for $92 shipped...

So right now I'm not sure how relevant these questions are anymore but I would still like to know if anyone strongly disagrees with my decision to get the DW443. I could always sell it to someone if I wanted, so I'm not too worried about that.

lol. That really is a small review. But, I have read many people's very positive reviews compared to the PC 7424, mostly noting that the DeWalt doesn't get bogged down under pressure unlike the PC. Only problem it seems that you can't change backing plates so you must use only 6"+ pads. But, the verdict is still out on that, since I read someone else's post who said you can. I guess that's the problem - there just isn't enough credible information on this thing out there. But, for $90 new I will take my chances. If I just absolutely hate it for some reason I guess I'll always be able to get at least that much for it.

I own the Dewalt in question. It's a great machine to put wax on your car. I just recieved the G110 and it blows the Dewalt away and that's not easy for me to say (if you've ever followed any of my post on here about the D/A machines) But it is what it is. The main problem with the dewalt is you cannot change the heads on it. So you're basically stuck with what you get. Where as the PC and the G110 you can change the Backing Plates to conform to whatever you need. (4" pads up to 6.5" pads)

After reading threads like this: http://www.autopia.org/forum/machine-polishing/49723-new-dewalt-443-a.html, that's when I decided to make the plunge. I know I will use this machine at best a couple times a year to work on 3 cars. Maybe I will lend it out if someone asks (unlikely). I dunno... Maybe I should just flip it on Craigslist and get something else...

Does the DW443 come with a hook-n-loop plate or no?

Yea it's velcro. I use all the LC CCS pads on my dewalt. Like I said it's a good little machine. Not so sure if it's good for correcting (I've never tried it since I've had a few rotaries always on hand) And like you said. The advantage is that it dosen't bog down under pressure. I didn't notice any bogging on the G110 either though...Yet anyways

Just making sure - it comes with it prepackaged? Like, I don't need to buy THIS? Amazon.com: DEWALT DW4395 6- Inch Hook and Loop Pad, Medium (Fits the DW443): Home Improvement

I won't say you won't need it. Mine came with everything I needed. But I got mine off my suppliers truck when he came around so it might have been a "Kit" of some sort. I also paid quite a bit more for mine than you did for your's there. So keep that in mind if you're shows up without. But I really can't see them shipping it without the BP that goes with it.

Yeah I just e-mailed the seller and he said it comes with the hook-n-loop pad :spot

Awesome. I'm happy that I got it for $90 shipped! I think I will try to live with the 6" pads - can I even use 6" or do I need 6.5"?

Dont wanna thread jack, but has anyone used coastal tools before? They're about 30 minutes away from me so I could just pick a pc in person then have to ship and deal with that.
