Finally full writeups on the two Ferrari's I did a while back

Just a little road trip down to Montgomery, AL for these two horses.

Both cars where paint only details.

First up is a 1987 Black Ferrari 328 GTS single stage original paint.

Client was kind enough to have the car washed for me and elected just to have a one-step polishing done.

Before pics:

Process:

Z6 wipedown

Zaino clay w/ Z6 as a lube.

White LC classic flat pad/M205/PCXP6 via KBM

This process was working great. I was amazed at the amount of defects that where bring removed. This is the rear deck area after the one-step polishing:

But unfortunately I only had 5 white pads with me. The single stage paint was clogging up the pores of the pads at a very fast rate. I tried to brush them off, but I could not maintain a good level of cut. So I started washing the white pads with APC and warm water in the sink. This is my usual method of washing pads during the KBM. I spin them out with a rotary.

I set up my air movers to dry the white pads. When using the KBM is very important that you use pads that are very close to 100% dry. If not the water in the pad will cause the non diminishing abrasives to clump together which will cause excessive micro marring.

An hour later I went to use one of the white pads that should of been dry by now. The white pads are made from a higher blend of non-reticulated or closed cell foams which does not lead to fast drying times. The white pad was not dry enough. So I had to go another route.

I have plenty of classic orange flat LC pads, so I used the following:

Orange/M205/PCXP6 via KBM

This left some surface marring so I followed with:

Black/M205/PCXP6 via KBM

So much for the one step polishing.....

The nice thing about M205 is the minimal amount of dust vs M105 on some paints.

I still did a QEW wash follwed by a Z6 wipedown to prep the surface the best I could for the Z5pro.

Applied 2x of ZFX'd Z5pro, followed by Z8.

After pics:

1972 365GTC/4

Repainted with a clearcoat.

Paint only detail, 2 step polishing with a minimum 85% defect removal.

QEW to remove the dust.

Clay

M105/Orange LC flat/PC6 via KBM

M205/Black LC flat/PC6 via KBM

IPA wipdown

Z6 wipedown

Z5pro x2

Nice. I love it when people say, "How damaged can the paint on a garaged Ferrari be"?

Whats the benefit from the air movers? Lets say you had 18 white pads and kept recirculating them, same effect or different?

Usually the airmovers will dry orange or black LC pads in less then an hour. This is after spinning them out with a rotary. I am very well stocked up on white pads now.

Not sure whats nicer, the craftsmenship or the collection. Bryan very nice work indeed! lol i got a dewalt dw849 for sale if you want it.

Awesome job Bryan. You seem to be using your PC more and more :)

Thanks Pat! Rotaries are for spinning pads out right? :bolt

Nice Bryan! I hope that Diablo is in the books already! I'd give someone's first-born son to own that car... :)

Thanks Apollo! I was actually emailing both clients today about a return trip. Looks like the 512bbi from the one client and the other is still pondering which one will be next. I too hope its the roadster.

Thank you very much Barry! I already have 2 rotaries on pad spinning duty, a Makita and small flex. I think I am about ready to sell the Mikata, I think I only used it on 10 cars.

Quick question, on a typical sized car with a cc, how many pads do you go through with M105 and M205?

8-10 orange w/ M105 and 3-4 black with M205. If I am working at home, I usually have my lovely wife wash orange pads for me. I spin them out w a rotary and place them in front of the airmovers (fans) and they are dry in an hour or less.

Friggin amazing work on 2 sweet F-Cars. Did the black single stage finally wash out of your white pads? All my white pads look like orange ones after the last red F-Car I did. I power washed them 3 times and color is still coming out while I use them. I can't wait to see the writes-ups on the others.

Nice work Bryan, its weird seeing you go away from your wool polishing pads now to KBM but never the less it works great! I just got my pcxp today too, so i'll try it out this weekend. How come you elected to use m205 instead of menzerna? Anything specific or is the Meguiars the choice now? The reason I'm asking is because i'm running low on 106fa (i had a gallon) and was wondering if i should get another.

Top notch work as always, Bryan!!

Looks like a nice little collection of cars!

Both cars look amazing. Great work!!

Do you have an air compressor that you bring on the mobile jobs? If you do, try blowing the pads dry with compressed air while spinning off the pads with the rotary, paying special attention to the edges.

+1. I'd do some mighty mean things to get my childhood dream car!

stunning work though bro, that black 308 looks absolutely timeless. I've always liked those, and despite my love for red, it's nice to see a Ferrari in a color other than red, and not a hide-all-defects color like silver or yellow.

More outstanding work and you're one of the guys on the boards that I love seeing what you'll come out with next: always good work and always beautiful rides

Thanks David! I usually soak them in a bucket of 2-3 oz of APC and water for a few days. I get most of it out, but the white pads still have a tint.

Thank you Sam! I have not touched menzerna, a wool pad or rotary since the first of the year. I just sold off 90% of my menzerna, I kept some 085rd. :) I just find that w/ the KBM I can do what I did with a rotary in the same time or less. Also after using M105/205 this year and doing many straight IPA wipedowns on various cars, I am confident that nothing will come back.

Thank you Rick! I don't have one for the road, but will try that trick at home. Thanks for the tip!

Marc, I very much appreciate your kind words. I wish I could of got some outside pics of each, but time did not allow.

The cars look awesome. Something about the 80's Ferrari's that will always have a place in my heart. Those and the old Lambo's.

Awesome work on cars. Did the massive amounts of Flourecent lights make it hard to see the correction that was needed?
