Finally did it. (Burned Through Clear)

You guys are using the wrong terminology. A burn through is damage caused by too much heat buildup that literally melts the paint and creates a burn mark. That image is not a burn, it's a polish through.

You might be right. I had a BMW in sterling silver where the silver color coat had this strange lines in it that looked like scratches but the clear was in great shape. I have seen this on a few different BMWs of that era with this color of silver.
