Welp, I finally got around to cleaning the daily. Ive had the car for about a year, and Ive finally become sick of the orange-peel gleaming back at me every time I approach the car. The car was previously owned by a lawyer, and he really must have pissed some people off to get the car the way it was..
between the orange peel, scratches, spider webbing and scratches in the rear bumper, this one was quite a handful.
Preparing for the longest detail of my life:
P21 All purpose spray (sprayed it on the engine bay/wheels/tires/wheel wells
Optimum NOR (did a quick once over and soaked the car prior to washing
Dont know if you can tell, but quite a bit of Orange Peel
ORANGE PEEEEEELLLL
Washing:
3 bucket method (soap/rinse and then one for wheels/tires)
Meguiars Pro Conditioning car wash shampoo
2 cobra sponges
Initial stage:
A TON of soapy water
Dawn Oxi plus dish detergent, mixed with water
Meguiars 2500 grit sand paper (didnt want to go lower, because I was afraid of damaging the clear coat on my 6 year old car)
Followed by Meguiars 3000 grit sand paper
After wet-sanding: I went ahead and clay-barred (using Meguiars claybar kit) just to smooth everything out and make sure all the contamination was removed from the paint/clear.
Compounding process:
3 Orange LC 6.5" pads with with Meguiars 105 compound
3 Grey LC 6.5" pads with Meguiars 205 Finshing Polish/Light compound
After I did the compounding, I realized after finishing with 205 there was still a significant amount of micro-marring left over from the wet-sanding.
I decided to take an extra step
DOOR (AFTER)
(still a bit of swirling/micromarring)
Finish:
Optimum polish with LC 6.5" Orange pad (I know it sounds aggressive, but seems like Optimum has really been stepping up their game. Their product finished GREAT on my paint leaving virtually no micro-marring/spider webbing behind, even with a light cutting orange pad... Thumbs up to Optimum, great product)
Final touches:
2 thin coats of Meguiars NXT Wax
Followed by:
Colgate toothbrush
A ton of microfiber's
Meguiars quick-detailing spray for cleaning up excess wax/fling
Wheels/Tires:
Black magic tire shine
Mothers metal polish on the wheels
Interior:
Purple Power(sp?) window cleaner
Ultima interior shampoo gel
Lots of TLC
A few microfibers
Shop-vac
Interior brushes for cleaning the center console
FINAL PRODUCT:
The two babies right next to each other
