Film on windows

It seems in the last month that everytime I wash my windows there seems to be this weird film on it that you can only see in direct sunlight. I have tried every possible towel combo with stoners IG and NXT glass cleaner. Nothing has helped. I thought it was my towels not being rinsed enough but after 3 rinse cycles there doesn't seem to be much difference. I have used MF, terry, and cloth diaper towels, I have used one towel to wipe the first spray of cleaner and then a second one to dry and then one towel for both. Nothing makes a difference.

Here are some window pics though i'm not sure that you can easily see what i'm talking about. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am at my wits end trying to figure out the problem.

Also, here are some new pictures after a wash and a 3rd coat of Natties over two coats of EX-P. Bold and Bright on the tires and PB Wheel sealant on the wheels.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

it seems like there is a buildup up stuff on the windows. I would use AIO or a like product to polish your windows.

Since the car is new..the interior may still be gassing off..causing the film on the glass...thats if the film is on the inside...the vinyl and carpet gas off for awhile..mine did it for a few months after I bought my truck...cleaning windows every other day....

There are some articles on the web about gassing off...It will end after awhile....you will see the fogging more on hotter days ..It will end..just takes time....

The gassing is the new car smell...

Hope this helps....

Try Pro Polish at 3000 rpm with a polishing pad on a rotary (taping off the rubber of course). It gets everything off like crazy and burnishes the surface to an even clearness. I got bored with my Honda (which has a cracked windshield anyway) and it worked great.

I would say one of two...or both.

1) Your MF's have left over product in them. Make sure you are using vinegar in your wash cycle.

2)You have the film on your window for whatever reason. You will need a glass polish to remove it. I have tried AIO, PP, PwC, etc. I truly believe that Autoglym's Glass Polish has beat them out, but I'm sure the others mention will do.

Ahhh vinegar, I knew I was forgetting something. Should I just use vinegar to wash them or should I use woolite or something else to also clean them?

I will try using some pro polish tomorrow and see what happens because that the only polish I have right now. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Is the film on the inside or the out?
If it is on the inside then it is probably like AL-53 mentioned the outgassing (I have been getting that on my wifes new car).

BTW the car looks great

Good luck

The film is on the outside, and I am also getting the fogging happening as well. So it kinda sucks right now to be a window.

Thanks

I go through what you describe at least once a day, and I think all of the responses you got are great. It seems like the "film" that gives me the most trouble appears on a car I've just done a great job of detailing, and all of a sudden I'm faced with 20 minutes more trying to get the damn film off of the front window.

I agree with what Tuba says about using a machine and polish on windows, but I'm usually to lazy to take that extra step. What I do is use lots of water and vinegar and wipe it off with a newspaper. Straight water works to, but just make sure you use lots of it. Someone on here once said that the ink in newsprint has a polishing effect on windows, and as nuts as that sounds I'm not gonna argue with them.

That film's a pain in the butt!! :goodluck:

Well then you may have Smog emissions on your windshield...I get a film on my truck on the outside also from the trucks in the truck yard next to my work.....If you travel in a high traffic area..like the freeway...it could be just diesal smog.....I use alcohol...then a glass cleaner after....just a glass cleaner will smear it....I tried lots of glass cleaners...and found alcohol works to cut it...and cleaner to wipe it away....

how much vinegar is needed in the wash cycle and is it included along with detergent?

The vinegar goes in th rinse cycle......I do not know the amount..I believe there are threads on here as HOW TO..seems like I remember 1 cup....

I just pre soak them in a bucket with Tide Clear..no dyes or scent..then wash them in Def a baby clothes detergent...they come like new...the baby clothes detergent rinses pretty clean..claims no residue left over...

It seems the amount of vinegar varies between people. Some say 1 tablespoon per towel, others say as much as a cup/load. Here are some threads that discuss it in more depth. http://www.detailcity.com/forums/search.php?searchid=290275
Also, the vinegar should be used in the final rinse, so as to "clean" the detergent residue from the towel fibers. (My thoughts, at least. You'll see in the threads that there are people that add it with the detergent, too, so I guess you might have to experiment and see which way works for you.)

I have had the same problem and know how you feel. I was taking everything off my V last week to do a full detail to the finish and decided to give the 50/50 water/alcohol mixture I was using a go in the exterior windows as well. I had already clayed the windows with the rest of the car....that finally took that frustrating film off the front and back windows followed by a good cleaning with IG X 3, using one towel to clean and another to dry. That did the trick for me and you might give it a go before purchasing a dedicated glass polish. I had water spots on the sunroof that did not cime out with Autoglym Polish, the Diamondite system, vinegar/0000 steel wool or Bon Ami. They came right out when I clayed with some Sonus clay! A very expensive lesson! Good luck!

I have had the best results by using FP II inside or out.cleans and polishes and very little residue. I do this by hand. After this step I use Rainx on the outside glass. Works for me!

I suck at windows !!

I found out that it was residue from my towels . I was washing them withtowels that had some silicone based stuff and it just went on all the towels. Man that was horrible. That was 2 yrs ago..
