Ferrari California pre-delivery save...

I did an Azzurro Blue California some weeks back, but that was being put on display at a hotel (I found out later that this particular car was in fact a prototype of the California); this one's actually being sold (first one sold in Hungary)... and it looked like poo. The boy's at Ferrari really blew everyone's minds this time though. I didn't get a picture of it because they'd already taken it for repairs by the time I arrived, but there was a huge scratch on the back bumper... and they "repaired" it with touch-up paint and a brush!! My 3-year old son could have done a better job filling it in... Needless to say, they had the whole bumper resprayed and then called me to correct the rest of the damage. It was full of holograms and RIDS and just basically looked a bit neglected. I finally got to wash this one myself so I saved a lot of time, which is something I didn't have a lot of with this one because it's being delivered on Monday.



Anyway, here's some of the damage; not too drastic but for a car with about 60 km it was unbelievable. I'm glad the owner of the dealership is Italian, because he's got a sense of pride for these cars, unlike other dealerships, so having them look their absolute best is paramount for him.



Some weird-looking grime on the rims... couldn't finger out what this was.

Here's the wash guy from the BMW dealership downstairs. Cool enough guy, but he knows the way I wash cars is completely different than the way he does so he lets me do my thing in peace .

I polished most of this car with InstaCut #15 and a polishing pad at about 900 RPM and as I was moving along I marked all the deeper scratches with tape as a reminder of where they were (like a polishing Post-It).

It's not always easy to see the scratches when I'm polishing so I made a couple of passes and then marked the deeper scratches with a little dab of polish on my finger.

The engine bay also needed a once-over

The owner of the dealership really likes Migliore wax so he decided it would be a nice gesture to include a tub of Migliore Primo as a gift in every new Ferrari and Maserati sold .

Of course, the wax of choice for today was Primo . Now that I've used this wax a few times, it's even easier to apply and remove. Goes on very silky and just a bit of resistance when removing, but as I've said before, you can really feel that there's a wax on the car after removing it... me likey.

Fantastic save. NOW the car looks the way it should have when it left the factory.



I really hope that mechanically the car doesn't get the same type of "attention" as the exterior. :nervous::nervous::nervous:



How reliable are these? I read in many auto magazines that italian cars still are terrible.

I'm a little lost on the whole "California" thing that's going on lately? Can someone fill me in. Almost every brand of car out there now seems have some sort of "California" Option.. I saw a Mustang Cobra "California" the other day and it threw me off. What is this trend? Some sort of upgrade appreance package or somthing of that sort?



And on Topic... Great save. I agree hard to beleive they would deliver it like that.

Its an actual Ferrari model, not an option or whatever. Like how a 430 or a 599 is a separate model, so is a California.

The last model of Ferrari California was featured in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. On another note, it would be nice if a car as expensive as a Ferrari would come WITHOUT such horrendous orange peel in the paint, which is most notable here on the front fender. A Lexus costs far less money and has no real orange peel to speak of.
