fender flares on Jeep Wrangler.

Damned pollen!!!
I am about to buy a 2002 Jeep Wrangler. As in most wrangler with plastic fender flares, these are terribly faded. Have any of you folks done a resto on these? Ideas? I have seen some stuff about using a heatgun melt away the oxidized plastic. I would rather not go that route.

I have some trim restorer. I may try that route, but from what I have heard, you have to either use the heat technique or sand them. I should have it Tuesday, so there is a full detail in store for it on Friday.

I'm sorry. must have miss understood. I thought you didn;t want to "go that route" and were asking for alternatives.

Sorry to confuse. I was asking for alternatives. Specifically advice from someone who has restored these type of fender flares. I have PB's TR and will be trying that route to start with.
 
Make sure you
apply
let dry
buff
apply
let dry buff
apply let dry
buff

The 3 applications should last you quite a while and save you from potentially doing damage.
 
THANKS SO MUCH!. That is exactly what I was looking for. I cannot wait for this detail. I'm loading up at autogeek right now. Been out of the detailing picture for a while (lots of reasons). Tossed a bunch of stuff. Now I have to load up on SSR2 2.5, Gallon of S&W, QD+, some of this M105 stuff that has come into the picture since I last really read up on detailing trends, some Microfibers and other stuff.

It was mostly damn near empty bottles of Vintage SSRs (at least 4 years old). I doubt they get better with time. Also a bottle of QD (not QD+) that had a little crack in the bottom. It had separated and some part of the mix (clear and dark brown) had leaked out. What was left was an interesting light brown stuff with the texture of pudding. Strange.

along the same lines...does anyone know the shelf life of Klasse Sealant (its probably 5 years old), 4* UPP (probably 4 years) and Pinnacle Signture (not sure how old, but I got it when it first came out.
 
Guessing it is merely a temporary situation possibly related to PB's recent injury. With DetailFest around the corner maybe they'll get stock soon.

I think you were right to start from scratch ... I think it is best to use a product in a year or two with three being the outside if kept in ideal storage. Yes, there are some products that can work forever, mostly water based products. Products with liquid PD's usually are the first to go, (disclaimer)but again not always ! :D

remember to spread it thin, thicker is not better, let it soak in as long as possible and buff with a cotton towel ... repeat as needed .. a half bottle should do about 20 jeeps ;)
