hey guys

looking for some info on your favorite products to restore white gel coat that has turned yellow. these by the way are not negelected boats, they see regular washes and waxing.

the two main problem areas are factory molded non skid decks and smooth large flats sections that get sun beat.

got any miricle cure products, and how is the longevitiy once corrected.

thanks mark

I've had luck with Menzerna Power Gloss on 5.5" orange pads followed up with Klass AIO on 5.5" white pads and a PC.

The PG really helped out on the colored sections of the boat. And the KAIO worked very, very well on the white top section of the boat.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics.

Yea wet sanding is the ticket

the non skid is killing me though, it is an agressive factory molded deck surface with a pretty deep profile and i can't get it white.

thanks

You may have no choice to get it painted. I have run across this myself -- the non-skid areas seem to lack the thickness of gel and discolor quickly. Have you tried a solvent in a small area just for giggles?

I'm still learning about dealing with gel coats, but I'm thinking that there must be a chemical that will help reduce this.

I know there are "acids" that you can use on the bottom of boats to clean off the gel coat areas that you cannot easily reach with a buffer.

there are some chemicals in marine use for stain removal, most are oxalic acid based, the one from interlux (states) rust / diesel soot / yellowing (works well for the first 2 concerns did noting for the yellow.

I have used soft scrub with bleach (great non skid cleaner) and let sit for 1/2 hour, it failed completely. Used west marine non skid cleaner (completely worhless) and the interlux heavy duty stain remover.

I am thinking solvent lightly soaked on a rag and brush or scotch bright may be the last resort.

thanks
