Fall & Winter Detailing

I have a question for my fellow autopian detailing business owner's.

I started my detailing business in the spring of this year and haven't obviously experienced business during the fall and winter, and I was wondering what do you guys experience? Is it a drop in business? Do you do something different to keep the business going? Do you specialize in a specific service?

This question is obviously for those who live in alternate seasonal climates.

Thanks for the advice!:xyxthumbs

While I don't live in an area prone to very cold weather or snow we do get down into the lower 20's for a stretch every winter at some point. Business will only slow down if there is freezing rain, sleet or the rare (very rare) snow fall.

Other than that it is business as usual. You will need to find some nice waterproof gloves and boots, perhaps a space heater and plenty of hot coco:bounce

If you live in an area that gets lots of snow you might want to offer a "Undercarriage Cleaning" service. Advertise this as a way to prevent rust and body damage due to the salt they lay on the roads. Just a thought.

Same as Anthony. I stay busy all year, only the weather and shorter daylight hours affect my business. Usually, I am busier in the fall through Christmas than in the summer. In the summer, lots of people are on vacation. Once school starts they get their vehicles cleaned up from their summer trips and in anticipation of the upcoming holidays. I also get a rush after the first good cold front when everyone wants their cars waxed.

I have some water tight rubber gloves that I wear with knit gloves underneath on cold days. I also wear sweat pants and a t-shirt, with a sweatshirt over it and then layer on t-shirts as needed. I want to stay warm, but not wear anything that can scratch a customer's car.

BTW, I am dreading the cold weather. I absolutely hate it with a passion. Last winter didn't have any huge extremes, just a lot of cloudy days in the 30's and 40's. Takes longer to dry cars and I hate being cold all day long. If it was up to me, it would never drop below about 80 degrees.

Amen Brother!!:xyxthumbs

I also hate the cold weather, I mean I enjoy it as long as I don't have to work in it. Bones ache, hands ache, even with gloves. Then there is always the cold hand hitting the license plate or jamming your frozen finger in the door jam:shocked

This is when I wished I had a building to heat up.

wait... lower 20's? 30's? 40's? That's cold?!?!? (I guess it is for Texas)... up here that's shorts weather! (at least for me in the spring) I'm so used to to New England weather, it doesn't qualify as "cold" until it drops to 10-20 below 0. Try detailing when the water freezes when it hits the car... hehe... Ah yes, the heated garage :)

....which is exactly why I don't live up north. In fact, if it wasn't such a pain to start all over again, I'd move back to Phoenix.
