faded trim.... what to use?

The trim on my car is fading....



The material is a SUPER HARD rubber or a plastic. It is so hard that it seems like painted metal... Where the "paint" or dye is fading it turned to a dull rubber color, leaving me to believe its NOT metal. Will the TRIM DYE KITS work on this type of trim, and if so, what kit do you guys recomend?



BTW- i can easily remove the trim from the car if that matters...
 
i used megs #66 on my trim and it woked pretty well to clean them up, then dressed with hyper dressing....

used hyper dressing on some really faded and dirty trim on a ford escape and it worked 1/2 way decent, had to apply two coats as it was really dry - no dressing in 6 years....

Every Poorboy's product I have ordered in the 16oz size I wished I got the 32oz size. Nice stuff.
 
Believe it or not the Duragloss Vinyl/Leather dressing works great on trim and doesn't run in the rain. I have Poorboys Trim Restorer but I've never gotten it to work well, it always seems to stay greasy and on the surface and not really absorb which is odd since it says it dries to the touch and isn't greasy.
 
is there anything that actually DYES the hard plastic? or are they all just dressings that will wear off in a month or so?

303 doesn't do too much of a job restoring already faded trim, though



It has a little restoration ability, but isn't going to make shot trim somewhat new looking

303 is to keep trim looking new and great. I think you are going to have to resort to Forever Black or Black again. I am sure there are a few other dye type trim restorers out there.
 
Another product you should look at is Zep's All Around, a member on Autogeek uses it and his company at work (golfcourse) uses it on all their carts trim, has lasted a couple months even through rain and abuses on a course etc. Restores trim very well, nice fresh black look to it and apparently repells dirt well and is easy to clean, gets absorbed into the trim.



I wanna grab some after searching around online and seeig other reviews of it.
 
I was able to get the severely faded bumpers and door trim on my '96 Volvo (boought it used) looking brand new again by:



- thorougly cleaning them with Tarminator

- then thoroughly cleaning them again with vinegar

- then wet buffed them with #0000 steel wool

- then applied 3-5 coats of Plastic Renew (supposed to last up to 5 years)

- then applied a couple of coats of Z-2



The trim went from chalky whitish light gray to a dark gray glossy finish that I don't have to any dressing with anymore.
 
FWIW. I had terrible luck with Forever Black. I only tried it once, so maybe theirs a trick to it, but I closely followed the directions and it just didn't work to well. Maybe I'll give it another shot someday. Now I really want to try Poorboy's Trim Restorer
 
Renuit is better but you also have ultra gloss polish (a plastic polish as well)
