Facebook Contest

Hello all,

I could use some advice. I recently started a FB page and am having difficulty expanding my fan base. After every detail I send an email to my clients and ask them to leave comments, etc. Some do, some do not, some like the page, some don't. I know this is normal as I do not sign up or like everything on FB, but I was wondering if I could get some advice from those that have done it.

Also, I started a FB contest, and had a decent response the first 3 hours and now, I am working really hard to get maybe one to sign up per day. The contest ends on the 19th, and the prize is a complete CroftgateUSA Car Care Package.

Any help would be great and much appreciated.

Have people "like" your page and post a photo of their car. Best photo wins a prize (such as a detail). Keep it running long enough to allow people to hear about it. End it too soon and a lot of people may miss out, thus you miss out.

You are good! You are very good!

@Thomas @Nth, that's a good idea, not sure if FB allows such a contest. When I was reading their rules, they stated that I had to pretty much use an app to run my contest. I could be mistaken, as I almost fell asleep reading the fine print. The contest I have running through OFFERPOP was free for 14 days, hence the short contest.

@Thomas: :thx

Easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. Odds are, unless someone reports it there shouldn't be any problem. You could always promote it outside of facebook and they would never be the wiser. Require a minimum number of entries to qualify. This might get people to have their friends and relatives enter.

As a side note; be careful when offering free details as a prize. Make sure it is limiting and clear. Never fails; someone with a nice, new car that you would love to detail instead wants you to resurrect their 15 year old minivan.

Why am I still here?:noidea: I think I need to go start a contest.:doh:

Edit: Just read through some of facebook's guidelines and it can be done, but a little fine print of your own would be necessary.

Quote: "You must not condition registration or entry upon the user taking any action using any Facebook features or functionality other than liking a Page, checking in to a Place, or connecting to your app. For example, you must not condition registration or entry upon the user liking a Wall post, or commenting or uploading a photo on a Wall."

Simply permit those who do not want to post the photo on facebook to email it to you.

It's very, very difficult to get people to follow you on FaceBook for some reason. There's some good things out there that can help, check out this guys page, he has lots of good free advice, though I have not gotten around to using any of it yet: https://www.facebook.com/Get10000Fans

One thing I did that helped mine was to run a contest with a local radio station. I put up a prize, which was a full detail and they then announced to all their facebook followers that to enter the contest they had to like my page and write a phrase on my wall. Then the radio station randomly picked a winner a couple hours later. I got a little over 100 new followers in 2 hours. It cost me the time for a full detail and $100 paid to the radio station. 100 new followers was great and exciting, but none of them ever booked a detail and I'm pretty sure 90% or more of them now blocked me from their news feed so they will never even see any of my updates. So it was worth it to grow the fan base which looks good when other people look at your page, but the return was pretty much zero. If you go on my FB page and scroll back to last August I think, you will see where all the people liked it for the contest. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Explicit-Details-Auto-Appearance/105650322669

Thanks Rich for the insight. I will check out the guys FB page. I want quality over quantity likes, ideally they would be both, but its been such a struggle. People can't say enough about how good their car looks, but for every 10 vehicles I do, I get one or two likes. As for the contest, I think most people must think its spam. I guess I can understand when people send me random stuff I tend to ignore it too (trying to change my perspective now).

Thanks for your help.

We have been leaving a nice flier in the vehicle after a detail offering a free voucher for their next detail if they like our page, has been working well however we are very selective on who gets the offer as in we actually want to turn them into a regular. Like another poster said get people to post their dirty cars etc. on your page to win a free detail and if all else fails do some facebook advertising usually brings in a few like's weather or not it brings in the customers im not so sure.
