Extremely stubborn caked-on brake dust

Damn! I don't think I'll be using WB again, EVER! WCD, I really appreciate your insight!

Should I be worried about WB eating my bones? I got a small amount on my hand and arms the other day... I also got a TINY amount in my eye - but I still see fine.

Yeah, if you're a guy, make sure you only smoke those packs of cigarettes that cause birth defects, not the lung cancer ones!

LOLO...:) problem with threads on this topic is anyone can nit pick a product to show health issues. It comes down to being smart about it. I do not know if I should keep using my PC, cell phone now..:shocked :grinno:

Myself and another gentleman went through the involved disposal procedure to neutralize and precipitate, etc.

I assume this is not something that can be done at home? When I was 16, I remember a wheel cleaner by aromor all that made me gag even when I did not breath it in, needless to say it did not remain on the shelf very long. WB works, but I value my life and limbs more than my wheels.

anyone in new england want 3/4 of a gallon?

Absolutely agree. Anybody in the midwest want an almost full gallon?

It was an industrial bath. If you want to dispose of a chemical from your home, I'd imagine that you have some sort of local haz waste recycling day/center.

As far as the AA wheel cleaner, I am still amazed that right on the shelf in Target were bottles of Black Magic wheel cleaner with ABF in it, that could be be broken on that floor with the little kids crawling around...but then I guess they could get into the Drano, too.

EDIT: I'm sure you guys can find some calcium gluconate on the internet that you can keep around in case you get any on you. Like I said, life is a calculated risk, we all take the risk that we won't come home every time we leave the house, it's up to the individual how you mitigate that risk (or not).

Driving is dangerous.

WB, when used properly can be effective, *like any tool*. If you use a drill to drill holes in your hand it will hurt your health. If you use un-diluted WB in an enclosed garage and take a lot of deep breathes, then leave it on the wheels for 15 minutes, you'll hurt your health and wheels. If you use it as intended, it will do exactly what you want it to. I wish you guys could ship it to me, it's hard to find here.

FWIW, I do not use it often. I'd say maybe on one of 200 cars I detail; but there are cases where it will work where other solutions won't. I am careful with it the same way I am careful when driving, or changing a light bulb.

Hydrofluoric acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here is some more reading about it.

Rob Regan- Feel like I'm on a mission at this point. I promise not to push it much further. What you do with your body is up to you, but some of the arguments for using it are not well grounded when you consider what this stuff can and WILL do.

Thanks for the heads up Rob....

I was telling my wife about this thread and the type of acid this particular wheel cleaner contains, (she's a chemist) and she looked at me very surprised and said.."You don't use that stuff do you??!!!" I told her no and she looked very relieved to say the least.

Please be careful with these things guys....the macho bullsh** that "everything can kill me, so why bother" is irresponsible. It's really no fun to be sick.......I know.

.......... HF requires special and specific neutralization products in lieu of (or perhaps in addition to) the showers and eyewash........
Mike, do you know if the Poorboy's Spray & Rinse contains HF? I have a bottle I have never used because of the warnings about using protective clothing, gloves and goggles. I've always been able to get by with other cleaners like EO if needed so I never messed with it.

Picus, what do you use to clean wheels? All your C/Bs look excellent!

Most of the time I use soap and water with a terry cloth or a meguiars wheel brush. Sometimes if there is a lot of brake dust I use a diluted all purpose cleaner (like hi temp's apc). I use a powerball mini on chrome/alum lips with mothers chrome/alum polish or P21S polishing soap. I have menzernas ph balanced wheel cleaner but only use it on really bad alum wheels. I use WB on only the toughest most neglected wheels. Cheers.

FWIW, I am not macho. I was just raised in a way that made me respect all tools, dangerous or not. I just don't think because something can be dangerous it ceases to be useful.

Picus...that really wasn't directed at anyone specifically.....sorry if it sounded harsh.

I'm sure the WB works awesome.....just as long as people understand the hazards of using such products.

Have a great day my friend.
