Extractors Solutions?

Just One More Coat
I have a 5.5 HP shop vac and it works like a charm, but in doing some cars it WAY time consuming to extract carpets and mats. Plus on some areas I have to use hot water and that's just a hassle

What I am looking for is a intermediate level hot water extractor. I'm convinced that hot water is the key in getting most if not all stains out of most carpet problems.

Thanks for any suggestions

No I do not want a little green machine its not large enough for powerful enough for what I want to do

The offerings from EDIC such as the Galaxy 5 gallon would seem to a viable option. I thought you had the opportunity to demo that or a similar unit some time back. I don't recall a mention of why you chose not to purchase that unit.

Powr-flite has some spotter options along with their full-size hot water machines. You can always add your own hot water with a bucket heater, which is what I do.

MC I did and it was a 5 gallon model don't recall the brand but in the end I felt it was over kill for the amount of cars I clean. Plus at 1K plus a bit rich for my budget.

I have the EDIC Bravo 1 gallon spotter, its good if the carpets arent too bad, but if you have trashed carpets your going to find yourself filling up at least 3 times to do one car, thats the only downside

That looks like it would work, I don't care about refilling all the much, its more about being more effective as I move threw the car.

In the case of the mats, I clean them using water and APC and a brush, they look clean wet but as they dry dirt comes to the surface. I do think that if I had a hot water extractor it would lift more of the dirt. At least that was my impression when I used a heated model on trial some time back

I may be mistaken, but if you want a hot water producing machine that can also inject and remove that hot water you are going to be in the $1k range. The Galaxy 5 gallon machine can be had just under $900, but then you add on your freight. It also has what some might consider a weak pump, producting only 50 psi. But it still looks (IMO) to be a decent machine.

The little Powr-flite spotter runs somewhere around the $500 range (IIRC) but you will need to provide your own hot water.

Dave,

I have had good luck with my Mytee Lite II 8070 Hot Water Carpet Extractor. Its only three gallons but it has served its purpose well as a weekend warrior type detailer.

I'll second that! Going on 4 years of weekend use and no issues. The only time I have had to refill was on an "extremely used and abused" mini van with cloth seats.

I finally gave up trying to extract the floor mats in the jobs I usually get (rural vehicles). I hit them with a heated pressure washer and APC, scrub - rinse - vac and hang to dry. I usually have the luxury of keeping the vehicle overnight though, so dry time isn't a big issue.

Yeah heat is only a problem if I'm mobile....At home or the garage I just fill it with hot water from the tap and it works wonders....Heat definitely does make a difference. I did not want to pay for the heater when I can just put hot water in it myself...Only a problem when I am mobile, but then again sometimes I ask for access to their sink for water if the carpets are really THAT bad to the point that I need the hot water.

Dtrick.22, if you are supplying your own water, you can pick up a bucket heater to heat your water should hot water be inaccessible.

I got the mytee tempo. Perfect for mobile guys the only problem is that it doesn't do hot water. I think its 1.5 gal reclame. It is enough to do a moderately dirty SUV. I just bring some hot water with me or when I'm working at home just fill it staight from the hot water heater. I think it ran me about 450 3 years ago and have never had a problem with it. It has the same motor and pump as the lite.

I use a retired home depot carpet cleaner with the upholstry attatchment. It works very well and then you can use it in your house as well. Picked it up for around $300.00 - new they are around $1200. Also very durable due to being built for commercial use.

How did you find that?

Are you referring to a Rug Doctor machine?
