External Harddrives

I have three external hard drives: 80 GB WD USB, 300GB Maxtor Firewire, 400GB Seagate USB/Firewire.

I'm looking to sell all three of those.

I want your opinion on what the market is like and what the price for each should be?

and if anyone is interested in taking them off my hands, we can talk.

All three of them are good as new.

Are these 3.5 or 2.5 ?

3.5 don't get much for it, maybe $30, $80, $100 if your lucky, 2.5 is where the action is at !

Look on Ebay for similar items in the completed auctions listings. That'll give you an idea of what price you can expect. One tip if you plan on selling on Ebay is to look at the items like yours in completed auctions that got the most bids/highest prices and almost copy what they did (descriptions & title). Try to understand why they got better prices than the others. Another tip is start your auction at a low price to draw more people's interest...the price will go up if the demand is there. Key is to get LOTS of people interested & bidding on your auction.

** I would use the low starting bid idea on items that I could see usually have lots of bidding action. Like say hard drives, notebook computers, ipods, a million and one things, but not specialty items where there's not as much "mass interest". On those I would set a higher minimum bid. My 2 cents.

I can't find the "completed auctions listing"
You have to do an advanced search (near the top right of the screen, under the search button). From there you enter in the keyword and then check the box Completed listings only.

Do a regular search for the current listings, then scroll down a bit on the left under "show only" completed listings & check that.

Hmmm good tip! I search for completed stuff all the time but never noticed that box :wall

use either DBAN or "eraser" software to thoroughly take care of each drive. It should significantly reduce risk of data recovery.

Both are free, and can be found with a simple Google search.

I actually got the tip from a good ebay e-book called eBay Secrets: How to create Internet auction listings that make 30% more money while selling every item you list. It covers all the selling basics (and more) in a straightforward way. I've only sold a few things but it definitely helped me get better prices than I would have on my own. I did have one specialty item that had very limited interest and got only a few bids on it. (may have to adjust the low starting bid idea on certain items) Have to DL and print it out. Book has great reviews, just sharing the info.
