Explain to me the art of the claybar

Mothers clay kit is another favourite, and sometimes easier to get. It also comes with a full bottle of the Showtime QD that's mentioned in that recent "favourite QD" thread.

The only (generally) unliked clay seems to be Meguiar's.

What's wrong with Meguiar's clay? It is the only readily available clay from where I come from. Any other brand, I'd have to order and get it shipped.

Meguiar's makes a few clay bars and the one that causes problems is from their consumer line and comes in a kit called Quick Clay Detailing System. Very likely it is not the one you can get in Malaysia.

Problems that people had with the bar I mentioned were that it smeared and left hard to clean streaks.

i used the caly magic one last week, and well i didnt fold and stretch, but i didnt put too much pressure on it. the car was a 96 civic and it was washed with dawn soap first....and it was extremely dirty afterwards, the whole bar....is it used up?

but the result was..WOW.....here i thought i had always treated my cars ok, boy was i wrong!

In Singapore Meguiar sell the Quik Clay Detailing System. We can get the Z clay through direct sales. I have not used the Meguiar clay as yet. If it is so bad, then I am really afraid to try in now.

Don't just write off Meguiar's clay, it still works but is just harder to use, be prepared for some struggle and use extra caution and you'll do fine.

For the amount of work that I put into claying I must say the results are amazing. Even bad clay is better than nothing in my book.

flyby, I'd probably throw it away. You can try to just cut off the dirty part but IMO it's not worth taking the risk. Next time cut the bar in smaller pieces that you can fold maybe twice and throw them away after use.

Zanio's would have to be oredered and shipped . . . .

Thanks,

Chris

I can't imagine anybody ordering the Zaino clay only, given the limited options for obtaining the (Great) Zaino products. I place an order about once per year, often combined with a friend or two. If you use Zaino on the paint, suggest you use the whole system (it's not compatible with wax) and follow the instructions closely.

if you're going to use SMR or a similar produt..no point in claying right? wont the slight polishing remove that layer with the contiminants on it??

I used to think so too, but found out first hand just how powerful a clay bar is when used properly. A friend of mine has a red '95 M3, and nearly the whole passenger side of the car was embedded with brake dust (how, I have no idea:rolleyes: ) and it wouldn't budge with Meguiar's SMR and their red pad. I used an entire bar on the car (had to throw it away when it was done - it went from blue to poop brown:shocked ) but it was worth it in the end.

And it was as smooth as glass. He was very impressed.
