Quick question for you guys/gals...What is the appreciable durability that I should expect from PB's Wheel Sealant. I purchased this to replace my current choice (AIO/#26). Thanks in advance.

When I use leftover Z7 wash water to clean them, I usually got 3 weeks out of a layer of WS.

Maybe using a weaker wash like GC might up the ante a week or so also! :)

i use AIO and two coats of PB wheel sealant (applied 24 hours apart)

i get two or three weeks out of it before i notice that brake dust doesn't quite glide off like it normally does

When using it don't forget to polish your wheels first. I find this makes a huge difference.

how concentrated is the wheel cleaner from Poorboys? I'm debating going with the quart or gallon size. I was thinking of diluting it into a spray bottle for frequent cleaning. Which seems like its all the time. I would love to spray it onto the barrel of the wheel and only have to rinse and not deal with the rag or wheel brush each time.

Poorboy's recommends dilluting 1:1 for well cared for and sealed wheels.

what polish would you reccomend; i'd obviously be doing the polishing by hand

i have some scratchX, maybe that?

Well it depends on what the wheels are coated with? If they are just painted wheels I would polish them up with some SSR1.

Any type of synthetic/sealant will work just as well. just polish & clean first. I've noticed no difference with using this vs NXT even or the EX-P. I don't think it's anything special .

they are painted, but soon to be powdercoated, so i need not worry about polishing them anymore :D

I see about 4-6 weeks out of a coat of wheel sealant, depending on the weather. I'm basing this on how quickly/how much effort I have to put into cleaning the wheels, as well as how long I can go between polishing. I'm really impressed with the product, both from a standpoint of durability as well as ease of use. I've applied UPP and EX-P to my wheels before, and in my experience wheel sealant lasts longer and is easier to apply & remove.

I PMed Poorboy about how long to wait to layer AIO/WS and this was his reply

"that's a good combo for protection. it may be a bit much as you're not really dealing with bad weather, but it should give you better protection if you are close the ocean . I would give it an hour or two before additional coats."

yea, my car is outside 24/7 so i need the protection. thanks for the info about it :2thumbs:

Thanks guys for all the responses. I get about 6 weeks with AIO/#26, but I have always wanted to try dedicated wheel protection - I'll be happy to report back my experience.

OK so how can you tell the difference ? On my 06 4Runner I have nothing on the factory clearcoated wheels. I in fact never wash them even and just use PB S&W and they wipe clean and look great , with no effort at all. When I had my Tahoe before this I did the same thing and it worked just fine. Our Ford Escape id a different story because of brake dust on the front wheel's, PB wheel sealant has been applied to that but seem to wipe clean just as easy with & without anything on them. I don't know if it's because they get cleaned and detailed so often or what , but how can you tell durability ? I've just never noticed it .

The accumulation of brake dust is extremely minimized when using a wheel wax of some sort. The brake dust problems are so widespread among 2003 Mazda 6 owners that Mazda released a service bulletin which modified the brake warranty from 12K to 36K - I had my brakes changed 3 times within the first 12K miles. If I don't stay on top of them, I end up looking like I've got 2 gunmetal rims in the front and 2 silver ones in the back. When it comes to measuring durability on my wheels, I take a very non-scientific method. If the brake dust starts sticking more than usual and it takes more than a simple swipe with the mitt to wipe clean - it's time to apply more wax. I know it's not a proven method, but it works for me.
