EX-P separated??

norahcrv

I wish . . .
I went to use EX-P today ^& found that after two years in my toasty garage, it had separated. No amount of shaking could "re-blend" it. Is it a goner??

I would imagine that a garage in Tempe, AZ gets pretty darn hot. A lot of people say to keep the products indoors where it is safe from extreme temps, but I leave mine in the garage.

I think that there are two or three things going on here...age, indegrents and heat...AZ is hot and I would imagine that in the summer the inside of the garage you could roast a chicken in it at times:D...I can't image that is good for any car product...the paste wax must be like melted candle wax...Age is the another factor, not saying they go bad but they differently change over time, It might also have something to do with what a sealant is made from...put these together as contributing factors makes me think that was the cause...Steve would be the best for this answer!...but this is my latest .02 until Steve pipes in then I'm going to agree with him :notme:

WELCOME Back NORAH!!! I dont know about the sealant just saw the post. Randal in very nice but sometimes stormy IOWA

I have some "old" sealants in my garage as well, and I try to shake them up every so often (i.e. when I think about it) and I have a bottle of EX-P that tends to separate more than other things too. If I recall correctly, I used it not too long ago after some vigorous shaking and it seemed to be okay. I believe it's about the same age as your bottle (2+ years old) so maybe they are from the same batch. When I go to use it, it's a lot more "runny" that it was when new, but I can get the bottle to "mix back together."

Good to see you N to tha C.

Hi Nourah,

Glad to see you posting :)... I'm not going to be much help here as I've never seen an EX-P separate like you described. I'm guessing as others have that the extreme heat of your garage and time has killed that bottle :( :howdy

Re: EX-P separated?? - Follow-Up

:thanks to all for your help & good wishes . . . it feels good to be back "home" in the City :howdy

I haven't touched the V in the month since I did the EX-Periment & this morning I was getting ready for a trip to Tucson & I just could not allow it to make that drive "dirty".

So out came the S & W & some plushy Poorboy's towels & I went to work. The dirt practically lifted itself off the paint! And when I did the final wipe-down of the hood, I was amazed & delighted at how smooth & slick it still felt. Maybe pre-heating the EX-P is the way to go here in my toasty desert?? :bigups

PS - S & W did a great job on all the brake dust on the wheels too!! I'm sure it was helped by the two coats of Wheel Sealant I applied a few months ago.

I am just going to have to file Extradition papers, and make you come back to less hot Canada lol.

Further Update . . .

I am just going to have to file Extradition papers, and make you come back to less hot Canada lol.

Thanks, Nolan . . . I just hope they don't try to serve them when I'm away on my great adventure!! :drive:

We had a torrential rainstorm last night (over 1.5" rain in Phoenix - may not be a bunch by some of your standards, but that is over 20% of our annual!), so I backed the car out into it & let the water do its thing. Beading was good, but they were starting to get a little larger than they had been before & were losing that "tight" look.

Pulled back into the garage & wiped it down with a waffle weave towel. After several wring-outs I felt the hood that had been clayed & EX-P'd almost 8 weeks ago & it is STILL SLICK!! :bigups :bow

Now I just need a cool weekend so I can treat the rest of the car!! :passout:

A couple more layers of EX-P then a few coats of Red and you'll be good to go.:D.:passout:

I actually have this happen with just about every product. I go out into the garage and shake everything up once a month.
