EX-P: A first look at the production version

I'm sure it's a lot easier to apply than Zaino and I'll bet that any observer would be very hard pressed to be able to tell the difference in performance.

Those were my thoughts..............

Hi...New to the forum here, but been a detail nut for a while! I am planning on using EX-P with VM as soon as I get my EX-P. I've got a combo of EX/NXT/S100 on the car now, and I plan on using VM again and then hitting it with some EX-P. If anyone sees a problem with this approach, chime in, please! :) Also, any idea if EX-P can be layered in with Klasse or Z? I am also assuming that EX-P can be layered on top of itself like other sealants??!? Thanks for all of your help!

Brett - :welcome to Detail City!

My 2 cents regarding your plan to overlay EX/NXT/S100 with VM/EX-P -
Vanilla Moose may not have enough cleaning properties to remove the preceding layers, and placing all 5 products on top of each other may not bring the best results. One of the best qualities of EX-P is its clarity. You will not be able to take advantage for that characteristic unless you strip off the EX/NXT/S100 first.

I don't think anyone has yet tried layering EX-P with Klasse or Zaino. I have tried two coats of EX-P which did result in a more glossy finish than a single coat. However, I can't say whether or not it can truly be layered. The improved look with the second coat could just be a result of more complete coverage rather than true layerability (is that a word?). We will need to wait for more people to try various product combinations and then report back with their results.

Well, my final plan is in place. I will be using some 1Z polishes as my base, followed by EX-P. I am sure the look will be great, but if time allows, I may just have to try using a little Klasse inbetween layers to see if it changes the look. I prefer Klasse over Zaino, as to me, it seems less plastic looking. As always, I am sure there will be differing opinions. :) Just my opinion and preference...As usual, any thoughts are appreciated, otherwise I look forward to using these new products!

In my experience something like PwC could not be used under Zaino because the carnuba would inhibit bonding.
It seems as if EX-P does not care if there is any wax/oils etc to inhibit bonding? that is, EX-P does not require the maticulous cleaning of the surface the Zaino apparently needs?

I am by no means a scientist but I'll give it whirl.....IMO EX-P is similar in formula to EX (which contained carnuaba) so I do not think that would be an issue. But how can you tell? As with any product, proper prep is necessary to achieve the best finish possible but i think that as long as the surface is clean of soil and contaminants EX-P should "bond" just fine. Has anyone ever tried applying Zaino without using their prep steps(over a carnuaba)?

EX-P does not appear to be especially finicky about prep products. It seems to behave the same as regular EX (with carnauba). I used the prototype version of EX-P over top of PwC and did not notice any bonding problems. Over a 3 month test period, the surface remained slick and very shiny.

One of the characteristics I admire most about the Poorboy's products is that they are so user friendly. They mix and match well with other manufacturer's products, can be used in sun or shade, and don't have harsh chemical smells.

Sounds good, I am not a Z expert but have used it for 2 years. I am always paranoid about surface prep as far as it being free of wax and oil, not just dirt and scratches.

I assume EX-P is suppose to last longer than EX?
If so, looks like I'll drop Z in favor of it. IMO the best benefit of Z is applying it in Oct and having it last all winter (in MI) until March.

I'm not certain if that's really the case. EX-P is consistently slicker than EX, but I wouldn't necessarily say that it lasts longer. The carnauba look of regular EX may begin to fade as the carnauba wears off, but I'd hazard a guess that the protective qualities between the two products would be similar.
