Ewwwwww...mid-winter clay

Because of the winter storm we had, my car spent about one whole month completely covered in grit from the volcanic rocks they use for snow traction. That stuff sticks more than I thought it did because I washed the car and clayed it after dinner and wow...it was bad! I never expected it to be this bad, especially given that I had previously done a clay job in June.

It's been dark here since before I started so I'll take photos of the car tomorrow.

I also put a test coat of 4-star UPP on the hood and fender. Here is a video of the awesome stuff!

I just ran my hands over most of the panels I had already done and could still feel some sections with minor contaminants. I ran the clay over all the panels AGAIN and continued to get crap on the clay; not as much as at first but still very considerable.

I'm starting to wonder if this is more than winter junk. It seems very persistent.

I also broke down due to boredom and applied UPP to the whole car. I'm waiting for it to cure right now.

Looks like it did it's job. What kind of clay is that?

And why did you put on sealant? I gathered from your post that some more claying was still in order.

My car is in desperate need of a good claying but until the winter is over really doesn't make much sense right now. Especially here where the roads are still coated and buried in sand.

It's Griot's Garage Clay. It requires a little softening because out of the jar it's pretty hard.

I didn't apply sealant until I had re-clayed the rest of the car. I just saw it in the daylight...4 Star UPP is amazing stuff. :bow
