Everyone that is mobile....Post up your detailing rig!

Hey all,

I am a huge lurker on here, and have been for the past 2 years. Let's make this an informational thread where we can all learn about different setups and equipment.

Here is mine (before it was broken into):

2004 Chevy Express 1500 4.3 Vortec (13MPG Weighted Down)

Honda EU2000i Generator

Briggs and Stratton 7500w Generator with Honda GX390 (overkill for detailing purposes)

Mytee Lite 2 8070 Heated Extractor

Northern Northstar 2700psi PW with Comet Pump & Ceramic Plungers (Honda GX Powered)

Northern Industrial 4000psi Hot Box

PW Hose Reels

3/4" Contractor Hoses with reels

225 Gal Water Tank pushed out by Shurflo Pump

Scaffold from Home Depot (best investment ever)

Ridgid 6.5hp Vac with flexible hose

Toolboxes

Chems of all types, KAIO being my sealant of choice, along with UPGP and OPT Opti-Seal, and a dose of Dodo Juice Supernatural & Pinnacle Souveran!

Canopy and Misc. Odds and Ends

Also, let's start a debate! Our image and reputation as professional detailers is everything. Which rig do you all prefer (Van vs. Pick up vs. going EcoSmart$$$ like Scottwax detailing out of his personal vehicle)?

Let's keep this informational with pics for viewing pleasure!

Here are mine:

Nice setup; but what exactly is 'going green' about 225 gallons of water, apparently no reclaim and 13 mpg? I'm the last to preach or discourage another, just

I only carry about 50 gallons of water, and only use an average of 10 gallons per vehicle (with foam lance). My van has the same motor as your Astro Van, but with normal everyday driving, I only average about 13mpg's. I am currently working out of my Prius (averaging above 40mpg), and most of my old equipment (pictured above) was stolen while the van was in for maintenance at my local shop.

I currently have a Honda EU2000i, Electric PW, ONR, compact shop vac, Bissel LGM plus all my chems in my Prius setup.

I love ONR and I do use Waterless/No-Rinse methods, but with most vehicles, I have to bust out the PW to remove tar and embedded soil.

The Prius has been practical, but with winter coming, I need a new setup (more fuel effecient, but reliable van or truck). Hope this helps!

Let's see your rigs!

I agree with image and reputation being paramount in customer perception, but the proof is in the pudding. Did the guy operating out of his truck or Prius perform better than the mobile van guy? Bottom line to me are results.

Initially though, based on looks alone, I'd go with a nice clean graphic-ed up van. It looks more professional. IMHO.

i know this is an old one but just wanna put mine out there and see what people think..

I think you need an add-a-leaf, some timbrens, or helper air bags in the back of that rig; it's overloaded.

I live in a mountain area and it's real tight at most of the homes I go to. Like on the side of the mountain tight! I would love a box truck, trailer, or even a larger truck but it would actually slow me down.

Sorry for the delay in response.. been busy. I have a 50 gal water tank a 4000 watt generator a 2800 psi honda pressure washer with a cat pump a 12 electric pump to pump water from the tank into the PW..i also ( not shown) have a mytee carpet extractor.. and the frame in this pic was built from scratch.. and bolted into the truck....

Like your rig, Did you build your self or purchased.

list your equipment if possible, Thanks

We just went from a 2009 Chevy Express 2500 with 68K miles to a 2010 Ford 250 V8 with 8K miles. Van is a little disorganized, and I need to touch up a few areas.

The generator is an electric start 6500/8500 and has plenty of power to do exactly what I need it to do.

PW 3100 PSI, PW Hose is streak free, Hose Reel, and water tank are all over 2 years old and may not look their best, but they work very well.

Mytee Lite 3 Gal Hot/Cold....well worth the $!

Water tank is 65 gal and is more than enough 95% of the time day-to-day...

26 Gal Compressor, plenty of air that is doesn't bog down on me as in the past with smaller units

Racks that have the chemicals are custom and i made them because I wanted something other than a storage bin...

I used to carry water, power, pw'er and everything a full shop has in a Dodge Sprinter. I've streamlined things to just carrying pw'er, vac, polishers, pads, towels and chems in a Toyota doublecab.

bought a mazda CX5 because it gets 30mpg! I was in a nissan xterra that got 15mpg...the gas savings is HUGE!!!

I dont use a tank and generator though, I mainly do house calls where there is free water and power. besides, most people dont want to listen to a generator all day, no matter how quiet...the polisher is loud enough!

Here we go. Sorry for the crappy pics but they are from my cell phone. My rig is a 6x12 enclosed trailer.

Outside of trailer.

Full Interior pic. The sun was directly in my camera, sorry for the gloss.

Generator and air compressor. That is a power extension above the generator.

Pretty self explanatory. The grey tote behind the detail bag holds my extractor hose and some misc. tools.

Product, towel, equipment, and pad totes. Looks more disorganized than it is. Having everything at eye level is great. I can stand up straight in this trailer and I am 6'1.

Inside the large, black tote. This holds extension cords, my rotary, DrivePur machine and chemicals, and bulk detailing chemicals.

Where is the water tank you say? I have a 65 gallon tank in the back of my Ram 1500.

This set up is a beast but it is great to work in. I have plenty of room and it is easy to find things and move around. Plus great advertisement.

I probably drive the most luxurious detailing vehicle, lol.

This is an old pic and I've since switched out a lot of equipment and got a small generator. I'll post up pics tomorrow or Wednesday.
